Convention thoughts shared...
I want to tell you the story of the six young people who sat in the front row of a convention that I attended many years ago.
The story is based on Genesis 22:1, Exodus 3:4, 1 Samuel 3:4 and Isaiah 6:8. In these four verses we read of the responses of four of the great men of the Old Testament when God spoke to them. They are Abraham, the father of the Jewish nation, Moses, the prophet through whom the law was given, Samuel and Isaiah, two of the outstanding prophets of their time. These verses give a clue as to why they were so useful in the hand of God. It is simple. They all responded in the same way when God spoke to them. They simply said,
"HERE AM I."
When we read the stories in these four chapters we come to know what those men meant when they said, "Here am I." It can be explained as follows:
Abraham was saying, "I am ready to sacrifice anything you ask me to sacrifice."
Moses was saying, "I am ready to do whatever you plan for me to do."
Samuel was saying, "I am ready to receive whatever message you have to give to me."
Isaiah was saying, "I am ready to go wherever you wish to send me."
If we can come to every meeting about 15 minutes ahead of time and bow our heads and say to God, "Here am I." If that "here am I" means I am ready to sacrifice whatever you want me to sacrifice and am ready to do whatever you want me to do and ready to receive whatever message you have to give and ready to go wherever you want me to go, then we are in a very ideal condition to get the full help from God that he wants to give us.
It was after explaining the above that I told the story of the six young people. One year when I was home from India on my home visit, I attended a convention. In the first meeting of the convention, I was sitting beside an old brother worker waiting for the meeting to start. Six young people walked in from the back of the tent and came right up to the front seat in front of the platform. They sat down there in a row. . The brother worker who was sitting beside me leaned over and said, "Those six young people have just recently offered for the work and are waiting to be send out to a field with a companion."
Most young people like to sit at the back of the meeting room. There they can look around and see who is there and often they get distracted from what is being said because of seeing someone they like in the crowd or because of some baby crying, etc. Often young people don't listen very intently to what is said in the meeting because they don't really want to know or be reminded of what God has planned for them to do. They want to make their own plans and set their own standards. They are afraid to listen carefully to what is said because they know it will interfere with their plans.
