I am thankful for William Irvine, as I believe that I owe my very existence to him. It was my parents involvement with the 2x2s that brought them in close enough proximity with each other to produce me! I imagine William Irvine sitting in his chair reading the scriptures and pondering Matthew 10, thinking to himself "I wonder what would happen if we tried this today?" He could have said "Nah, if wouldn't work", but instead, he thought "It's worth a try." That was a pivotal moment in my being. My mother's parents were immigrants from the British Isles. My father's parents were immigrants from Europe. Both families settled in different regions of the United States, and would never have commingled, if not for my father, who had been a farm boy, looking up the local 2x2s when seeking employment in the city where my mother lived. So, thank you, William Irvine. If not for you, that swimmer would never have landed on that egg which is now me!

However, I was adopted by a 2x2 couple so I would have existed in some form or the other whether dear Uncle Willy existed or not. I might not be so good at public speaking though! So I too am thankful for Uncle Willy.

2x2 wasn’t a bad raising for us. It could have been so much worse. We learned there was a God and a Jesus and a Holy Spirit. Some things were left out of that education. We weren’t abused family nor worker wise. Well up until I was about 14 y/o, old enough to handle the repercussions.
After hearing about many of the CSA victims were children such as us kids, I was kind of shook up; but Gram had instilled in us very, very soon on our arrival in her home; to not allow ourselves to be handled or touched by men. My aunt was so picky she got onto me for running to meet my uncle as he came down to the barn with the work horses. He’d always toss me up on one of their backs where I could ride hanging onto the hames as he walked them into the barn. He always left the one I was sitting on to unharness last so I could sit there longer. I was heart broken she made me quit and so was he, but we picked it up later. She’d apologized to him. He was the only man I’d dare trust and he never touched me except to toss me up on top of that huge work horse. He knew I loved them horses! They used to watch me go out in the pasture and walk all around and under them horses and hang my arms around their neck and love them. They’d usually blow soft nickers in my ears. And I loved the smell of their fresh grassy breath.

After all, if it wasn't for the workers I might never have questioned what I was being taught. That would make me a theist still and I really don't want to think about how that would be. I would be missing so much if I was limited to the beliefs my birth family believe. Young earths, no evolution, etc.

Did your parents meet in the military or did they survive a camp and met there? Hitler invaded Poland causing my Father to flee to Great Britain (a long story) and joining the Free Polish Army. My Father had had no intentions of ever leaving Poland. Like most Poles from the east (not north and south) who came here at that time, he settled after the war, meeting my Mother (Scottish), marrying her and by acceptable heterosexual relationship, they had two sons and a daughter. I was the youngest. But for the actions of Hitler, my Father would never have met my Mother and hence there would be no me. So you see. No Hitler - No me! Do I owe a debt of gratitude to Adolf Hitler? Surely he must bear the responsibility for his actions, which must include the eventual propagation of myself?

I would say that you just might want to thank Hitler for your existence. For me I really don't think the event of my birth was all that important in the big picture. I'm sure this world would have done just fine without me and possibly even better without me.

In my former life on this board as Ram, for a short time I used a photograph of Adolf Hitler as my avatar. One or two found this distasteful, despite my explanation, so I replaced it. However, I do appreciate that overall, Hitler was a very naughty man and my gratitude to him for my existence hardly makes the slightest dent in the infamous portrayal he receives. This story just goes to show that innocent children can result from more than one method of naughty behaviour! More importantly, Snow, your suggestion that this world would be improved by being denuded of your presence, is the grossest of misconceptions. Your contribution to this world is perhaps one of the planet's greatest enhancements no matter how insignificant you may feel it to be.

Although both my parents professed, -it was in the days when 2x2's didn't go to conventions out of their own state, mostly because if would have been too expensive.
However, my father met my mother because went to her state, Kentucky, -as a worker. Then due to we children being taken to Kentucky conventions, my brother married a young woman from there.
THEN one of their children married a young man from Kentucky. Didn't stop there.
Now one of their daughters married a young man from Kentucky! (There son is too young to marry yet.)

Hmmm I think it must be the existence of the State of Kentucky that you should be grateful for. Seems to be a key component in all the meeting and begatting for your family....

Without you, me, my neighbour, friend or other there would be no society and the world population would die out. Each member is valuable. We contribute through housing, food, medical expenses and the money we spend on a daily basis to survive. We each contribute even if it's just eating to survive. But it all has ripple effect in forming what we call society.

Different timing produced brothers and sisters, NOT the same person. Nope, I stand by what I said. No Hitler - No me!
