I would ask, where did you get the Idea that God is bent on protecting the flesh or our Mortal bodies? According to the bible, in 22 out of 37 of the miracles, Jesus was bent on healing the flesh. 1 Heals an Official’s Son 2 Heals Peter’s Mother-in-Law 3 Heals Many Sick at Evening 4 Cleanses a Man With Leprosy 5 Heals a Centurion’s Servant 6 Jesus Heals a Paralytic 7 Heals a Man’s Withered Hand 8 Heals a Woman in the Crowd 9 Raises Jairus’ Daughter to Life 10 Heals Two Blind Men 11 Heals a Man Unable to Speak 12 Heals an Invalid at Bethesda 13 Heals Many Sick in Gennesaret 14 Heals a Gentile Woman’s Demon-Possessed Daughter 15 Heals a Deaf and Dumb Man 16 Heals a Blind Man at Bethsaida 17 Heals a Man Born Blind 18 Heals a Blind, Mute Demoniac 19 Heals a Crippled Woman 20 Heals a Man With Dropsy on the Sabbath 21 Restores Sight to Bartimaeus 22 Heals a Servant’s Severed Ear

I have to say that I agree with Chuck's assessment of the Bible on this issue.

I have to say that I agree with Chuck's assessment of the Bible on this issue. Yet the bible says he made hell, who's sole purpose is to burn the flesh forever, and thats prepared for the many. If it was only all about the spiritual, then he could have dispensed with all the flesh stories in the bible , and demonstrated just spiritual stories. Many Christians think he does protect their flesh. Consider how many Catholic saints there are for protecting the physical you.

My father used to say that there are no Atheists in foxholes. I beg to differ. My common sense can't be put aside.
Freedom From Religion Foundation is one of the organizations which has been very active in their efforts to keep the wall intact between Church and State.
I've been member for a long time and been to their conventions several times.

wonder if this thread will grow to 14,000 views if it is put back on topic for next year -- Adjusting the 'clocks' back then would have been very simple -- just remove the back of it and stick the sharp end of a straight pin in its gears until the battle was over, then pull that pin back out and put the back back on the back of the back. Gears in clocks didn't appeared until the 14th century. 13,999 & counting. ;-)

Sounds like another bible myth that never really happened.
(Joshua 10:13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies.)
but just in case, how would you adjust the clock? "Gears in clocks didn't appeared until the 14th century." -- Do you always answer your own dum questions? Dum = “cooked in steam”

When I hear people coming on TV saying how they prayed during such and such disaster and God listened and saved them I think how insensitive they are. Do they not think about their neighbor who likely also prayed to the same God and yet their home was destroyed and their loved ones died? They get into an accident and they aren't hurt and God is good. The people in the car that they collided with died, but that doesn't even hit their radar it seems. It's almost like they just feel that whenever something bad happens to someone else it was because they didn't pray right or weren't really under God's protection or something. It's important to make sure no blame is ever laid at God's feet for the bad things that happen to people. And, I wish more would give credit where credit is due when people are saved by the paramedics, surgeons, doctors and nurses and modern medicine that made it all possible. I love (well, not literally, but you know) when a van full of people die in a crash but the baby in a car seat survives and it's a miracle! WTH??? I usually cry for that baby. It’s gotta be hell to have to grow up never having mom nor dad there!

Those prayers are called witch craft in my opinion. Making God fit your belief. Works for the survivors doesnt it 😁, as they're the only ones we hear about!. I always wonder was it really someone’s time to go? Or just a fluke of the accident?

I always wonder was it really someone’s time to go? Or just a fluke of the accident? Well if it's a belief that God is in control of when you die, then I would have to say it wasn't an accident. How else could you view a death if that's what you believe. (not meaning 'you' personally, but an in general belief)
