my sister had to put down her 15 year old sh-zu today, moms crying she's crying and my brother-in-law is a little tearful. its amazing how these pets become so much part of the family...shes cremating him and putting him in a little box on the mantle. she had originally bought him for my mom but my beagle lost his mind with another dog in the house so my sister took him back with her....RIP bailey

Sorry to hear that Wally. Yes it is crazy, but they do become very much part of your life. And I think as your get older, and your family has moved on, pets take their place. They are so dependent on you, and hence the bond. But the down side is, the day that you have to say goodbye.

And pet owners in this country sue when their pets are taken away from them, … whether they have criminal records or not.

@wally sure do understand the tears. I had to put my cat down a few months ago and I still am having trouble. I miss him so much. He slept at my knees all the time and now there is no one there. They certainly do steal our hearts. ps rational, don't read this...

Wally a link to a tribute for your Sister's Furry Friend, and all who gave lost one. youtu.be/wedshx2J6iEA beautiful tribute. How we treat our pets and children says the most about our goodness as humans. Absolutely correct Bob, and in that tribute all living creatures are mentioned. I suppose like wine you do mellow with age, and become more loving. You try to walk around an ant, instead of on top of it. And my God is a living God, as the creator of all things, that have been made for our enjoyment and pleasure. Now if you don't like the word God, call it something else, nature, etc. But try to learn as much as you can about it, get close to it. Far better than wasting time on human made belief systems. Creation is there, you can see, touch and smell, wonderful. And you don't have to bow down 3 times a day and worship it, it is with you all the time. Instead of worshiping you have continuous gladness in your heart, that you are a small part of it. That brings great peace.

I think it does something when we can feel compassion and value in all life. I see us all as just trying to survive and I have a lot more lenience towards other species that aren't like humans. Something done by instinct rather than just meanness or for a trophy like humans do, is something I understand better. The way our world is set up is that one life must die for another to live. But we humans take it a step farther. We kill for fun, meanness, or for no reason other than we can! That I can never respect, and see our species as the deadliest of all because of that lack of caring and/or our belief that we are superior to all other life forms.
