How has "The Truth" changed in your lifetime?
(Author unknown)
When I see photos on the web of 2x2 girls I am confused. First of all I would not be able to tell them apart from worldly girls. That was not allowed in my day. We stuck out like sore, throbbing thumbs.
Our hair put up was always tightly pinned -- there were no ends sticking out. There was some uncomfortableness in the fact that some girls hair simply doesn't grow as long as others. It was never allowed to be cut or trimmed anywhere -- front, sides or back. There were some girls with uncut hair who couldn't get it to grow past barely touching their shoulders. There were others who were able to walk on their hair when it was down. The idea was to have it pinned up either in a braid or in a swirl bun.
We were so silly -- we thought that no one would be able to tell who had the shortest natural hair and who had the longest natural hair as long as it was pinned to the head. LOL One can tell the length of hair by the size of the bun but we didn't think of that back then. If a woman's long hair is her glory, how embarrassing that God gave some women naturally short hair! So, up it all went to save the embarrassment of those given natural unending hair as opposed to those having naturally short hair.
Only a few short years ago the workers did not allow us girls to wear any shoes without toes and without heels. When some started wearing nice shoes with back straps (heel-less) oh, it hit the fan. There was Trouble in River City -- Trouble with a capital T. So, to see pics of girls at convention with no hose and flip-flops is shocking. I'm not talking eons ago, I'm talking within one generation.
We were taught that any shoe which had straps going between the toes was sexually suggestive -- that it imitated the male organ going into the girl thingy. (This is not a joke -- the workers actually taught us this). So, the flip-flops on girls' feet at convention sends me into hysterical laughter every time! (If they only knew what their mammas were taught!)
We were not allowed to wear anything sleeveless. Any girl wearing the tees the girls are wearing now would have been forced to wear a sweater over it. Spaghetti straps -- no way that would have happened. In fact, short sleeves were actually discouraged for a while -¬the workers desired that we follow the sister workers by wearing three-quarter sleeves (just below the elbow but above the wrist). This, also was not that long ago.
And, don't even mention the cleavage that is being shown nowdays. No decent guy would even approach a girl showing cleavage. And, again, they would have been forced to change or cover up.
The eternal questions between guys and girls was this -- if a girl's hair is to be as long as it can be, then a guy's hair should be as short as it should be. So, then we get into the debate of how long is long and, how short is short? One worker insisted that the boys should all get crew cuts out of fairness to the girls. They should have their hair cut as short as possible without shaving it off. If the girl's is as long as it can be then the guy's is as short as it can be. LOL
I think the biggest change in the 2x2s is the lack of worker control. They can only make suggestions now. Not so long ago they ruled. Now their power is gone.
