Over the past several decades, I have given much thought to a lesson I was taught on my farming cousin's place. He pointed out that other than sowing the seed, the sower has little if any affect on the result of his sowing.
It was shown to me that broad casting by hand certainly was often not as effective as using, say, a drill, for instance. The same thing applies to spiritual seed, the life is in the seed, not the sower. Thus, when the seed germinates into life, that is largely separate from the one planting it. Scripture teaches to receive with meekness the engrafted word. Engrafted word, as seed, implanted in soil, not biblical "graffed" which is the graft of today. Too soon old, too late knowledgeable. Sigh!

Sigh! Broad casting puts seed on the ground, while a drill puts seed in the ground. By using a drill the seed is planted out of the sight of birds, which like seeds. Most seeds today have a coating of insecticide and fungicide. Then there is the Monsanto GMO Roundup Ready man made seeds. There must be some hidden meaning in that .

Sigh! It seems so simple, now, doesn't it? "The life is in the seed, not the sower." I find there are a lot of spiritual lessons in the natural world. Almost if it was designed that way.

Like many farmers, I have seeded billions and billions of seeds, using many many different methods and brands of equipment. The seed does not care one bit, what particular brand of equipment it was seeded with. It is not uncommon to seed "by air", when ground conditions are not favorable. Hmmmmmmmmm, seed by air like in radio, TV. internet .....? life is in the seed.....not dependent on the sower or method. Alvin

Spend some time in the bush and in the mountains. Observe how seed falls or a berry is eaten and pooped out and what it is covered by. No fancy drills there. In some cases there may be many seeds in the ground waiting for the right opportunity to germinate which is often the death of a mature tree which then lets the light into the forest floor.

Isn't it wonderful? We can learn so much from religious knowledge, the parable of the sower takes us into farming, and this forum provides that opportunity to learn more about such unfamiliar areas of life for some of us. The forum serves an important service/purpose in more ways than one. It can be educational as well as confrontational.

Friend, I much prefer the educational to the confrontational. Huge sigh. Yet I know there is a place for that also.
Very tired. They wanted me to spend three days on I. V. Administered diuretic starting last night in the Portland V A Hospital, just had to get back to the place and oversee the plumbing remodeling as we were without water. Retaining about 30 lbs of fluid. Just don't have time for this problem now! Some electrical needs to be addressed also. Is there no end? I'm ready for it any time!
Use this forum to also share my burdens as have no other place left in life to do so. Because I will not "join" a denominational fellowship, that avenue is basically closed. Anyway, this forum for me becomes supportive as well as the foregoing two. Sure do miss what I once thought were brothers and sisters in the Lord nearby. So many I thought so highly of have passed on, and others prefer to merely pass by. One problem with aging is failing to share life with younger people who care.
So, it is to this confrontational, educational, and frequently supportive forum I spend much time.

Just had a wee thought about nature. Tree seed falls to the ground and is covered by humus. 2x2 gospel seed falls to the ground and is covered by hubris.

So, it is to this confrontational, educational, and frequently supportive forum I spend much time. If you lived near me, you could come for a cuppa! I'd love to read and talk about the things of God with you. You don't have to be in any religion to be close to God, we speak to him from our hearts. It's not the religion that's important to God, it's what our hearts are like. I too have a medical condition, and I see it as a test of faith. I take it as something I have to bear in my life and still show the love of God in my heart to others. Caring and sharing where I can. Like you Dennis I love God, I know he's there. I don't need anyone to tell me that and I know he hears me and I have complete faith in him! And I know he loves all of us and just wants us to love him back! It doesn't matter where you pray, it's how you pray. God wants a sincere loving gentle heart, and from what I've read on your posts, I see you have that! God bless Mary

But what if the sower is paid a salary? Eeek, a hireling!
The life is in the seed! Absolutely.
There are other ways to be a hireling than just $. The wages could be power, preeminence, etc. In other words, a worker could be a hireling!
Dennis, not every church requires "joining". I take the Word once-a-month to a local juvenile detention center. The youngsters have some very good questions. We also attend a local fellowship whenever they have a singing time. The women sit on one side and the men on the other, and there is beautiful harmonious hymn singing. And we attend a family-integrated church with three elders (no pastor).
