In some places overseers are OPPOSED to the idea. In other states/regions you can call a number and hear the meetings on your phone. In south Florida, you can call a number and listen to the Sunday morning meeting on the phone. How do overseers explain such differences? I hear the overseers of MI, KY-TN, Dakotas and IN-IL are opposed to the phone meetings. Carl Hamilton has no problem with it in Florida. Oh how things can change when you cross state lines!

I agree, it would be very helpful for shut-ins or folks who are ill. At our convention site there is a sick room equipped with a speaker so that poeple who are unwell can still listen in. Other churches broadcast services on radio and some on TV, so that people could worship at home, if they are unable to get out. God understands these situations, He is compassionate.

Seems like workers with connections to the Wolverine State are the most opposed.

The question was why are some opposed to it while others are not? Is there not unity in the fellowship or was it an illusion that never really existed? We always heard it was the same the world over.

Sameness is not demanded; it's an effect. How extensive is your meeting experience worldwide? I was just updating the information for Walkeer.

Change of the norm is most often accompanied by opposition.
The trouble is that many have been conditioned to believe that although the World changes, the Way (system) doesn't change. It remains the same. It's the naivety factor.

Heat pumps also give out cold air, fires don't. In effect a fire only does half of what a heat pump does. A bit like the workers preaching half the Gospel and not the other half.

You have hearing loss? You aren't able to discern the voice of your shepherd? I'm sorry, that's a horrible thing to have to live through! May your hearing be miraculously cured and you can tell the differences in voices!

The F&W fellowship sameness is not universal in every way and that is understandable. Nothing is normally exactly the same in every way; even in Political parties in every Country there are differences of opinion, not absolute sameness among members of the same party and that is why we have abstentions when voting. One must make allowances for cultural differences in the fellowship in the various countries as well. These differences do not mean that the members are any less faithful or righteous than others elsewhere. In some places we kneel at pray time, in others you sit or stand, same with giving testimonies, in some places I have visited they sing fewer hymns than in other places I have visited. Some rules are adjustable to suite appropriate condition prevailing.

Yes there are bigwigs with lots of influence. Lots of cash is important only if it is spent for the Kingdom's sake.

Some rules are adjustable to suite appropriate condition prevailing. There is no disunity in different traditions. The disunity arises when something that is accepted in one part of the world will earn you loss of fellowship, privileges or at least of reputation in another part of the world. Divorce and remarriage, marrying "outside," saying "though" vs "you" in prayer, not having Christmas trees, hair length and dress for women are such traditions that have varying importance in different parts of the world.

And then nothing shocks you after that!

I don't see anything wrong with listening in on the phone. But, there is nothing quite like being there in person. The phone has its (shall we say?), uh, limitations.

That's just silly, Mary. You don't really believe what you're saying do you? You're quite intelligent so I think this is just a bit of poking with a stick. Anyway, let's not confuse unity with uniformity. Actually, if the f&w do err, it's that they sometimes confuse the two concepts, as you did.

One obstacle for legalism to overcome remains the same in 2014 as it was at the beginning of Yahu'shuah's life on earth. That of deciding what is okay and what is not for everyone beneath the place of the "priesthood." It results in the binding of burdens grieveous to be born upon the shoulders of those "beneath" them. Spliting of hairs, faulting all who disagree, even to the point of condemnation, and excommunication, that is the forbidding of fellowship indefinitely with no appeal, then uncontolled slander against the one(s) not in compliance, even widening to include anyone who might befriend them.
Bad enough when this happens anywhere, much less in the name of the Lord. Yes, there may be a need for correction, but not by kangaroo courts consisting of ones with personal iaxes to grind. Even worse, those in the wallets of one side or another, and in the name of the only true religion! Sad. Very sad.

It is the workers who confused unity with uniformity - in fact they lump the 2 together. They would say we are the same the world referring to every aspect of the group, natural and spiritual. Whether it was dress, the way things are done, their beliefs, etc. It was the same the world over. Why do you think so many are now questioning when they realise things are not the same the world over?

Seems like workers with connections to the Wolverine State are the most opposed. It has been opposed in the Old Dominion for as long as I can remember. One husband recorded a special meeting for his shut-in wife years ago and he was asked to delete the recording. I have always liked the idea of saving a recording of some meetings. I think it might be especially helpful in defending some things about us that have been taken out of context.
