This time of year in some parts of the world are getting colder, and colder. The nights are growing longer and longer. The days (and light) are growing shorter and shorter...But, (especially now) we still need "refreshment". In fact, maybe we need it more now than at other times...
This crossed my mind last night as I was driving home. I was feeling kind of tired and in need of refreshment. It was late and I was looking forward to a good nights sleep, which I got.
So I can start my list by this: Good sleep refreshes me. And so, sometimes it is that it may be a simple thing as REST that refreshes us. And that is not only sleepy-time rest, but rest from our daily routine.
I remember growing up on the farm and newborn anything, be it, kittens, chicks, ducklings, turkeys, pigs, foals, calves, puppies, or birds; all those things brought a sense of joy and wonder as well as refreshment.
But it is more than natural birth that is refreshing. We need "rebirth" and 'new life' in our lives as we continue on and grow up and grow older. So, I think one of the keys in continuing to be joyful and happy in life is experience some form of rebirth in our lives from time to time; whether that is bringing forth a new birth in the form of your children, or seeing your grandchildren growing up and do things like play a basketball game!!
For some, rebirth takes place when they finish a project.
For many, rebirth occurs in a more spiritual sense as they go to God in prayer and meditation and are somehow refreshed. Sometimes it may even such a simple thing like taking a nice deep breath.
What refreshes you?

I know you were thinking of us in the Southern Hemisphere when you only said 'some'...... but I thought I would help you out anyway.
What refreshes me? A nice walk in the evening in the summer after dinner. Having daylight savings is also a bonus in the summer months.

Thanks for the replies and "likes" so far...It occurred to me one night last week that grandparents receive a LOT of 'refreshment' from their grandchildren and this hit home to me; not because I am a grandparent yet, but because I took in the look of wonder, joy and refreshment a certain grandma received by just being able to go and watch her granddaughter in middle school play a game of basketball and score ** 6 POINTS **. Yes! Six points......maybe that doesn't seem like much to some people, but to this grandma in particular, it was a very big deal and she was riding on 'high' after being able to see her granddaughter play basketball and score. I took a lesson home that night. Grandma to granddaughter: what a special bond. And, she loves that granddaughter and granddaughter loves her grandma like no other love...I've yet to experience what it is to be a grandma.....but, I remember what a special bond I had with each of my grandma's..............
Each one so special, one so special in connection to musical heritage, that I eventually wrote a song about it, recorded it, and had it copywritten. I don't know that it will ever make to CMA award night, but it HAS been played on Seattle public radio. My music has yet to make to the big screen or on mainstream radio. But, it has made it to public television, anyways. These days, that's quite alright as I think people are past beginning to understand the value of small venue and back-roads tracks. (boy, am I glad for spell-check on here tonight. )
Anyways-what refreshes you? People are in need of refreshment. And, what once refreshed us, may no longer refresh us. Also, what now refreshes us, may not have refreshed us years and years ago.
Times are changing. People tend to go back to their roots. Why this is, I don't know. But, it seems to be the way it is. I had a dream last night that took me back a long, long ways; back to college, in fact. Oh, youth!! The dream went from just being at my college again into being a nightmare about not being ready for college exams...to dreading whether or not I was going to pass....to waking up and so glad it was just a dream. We all have dreams...we all have had dreams; whether literal dreams or dreams of what we might feel called to accomplish. It seems as though it may take more than one lifetime to be able to see dreams to their fruition.

Oh yes, grandchildren do rejuvenate and at the same time exhaust me lol. I love it and they always make my day better!! Even if I need a nap after I've been locked under the table ...

I can endorse this, snow, I have eight, four females and four males ranging in ages from 4 months to 19 years of age. It is said that grand parents spoil children, I get accuse of that too, I think that I am a little tiny bit guilty sometimes. I feel refreshed after a good night's sleep, then I begin the day with God, saying a prayer, then I put my ear phones on and have one or two chapters in The Bible read to me on the iPad. Previously I would go for an early morning walk in the park and sit and feed the birds and other creatures and watch their antics and behaviour spending a little time with nature gave me a feeling of being very close to God; and an old school hymn very often came into my mind : All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small, the Lord God made them all.

I am so glad I get to enjoy him by living just 5 minutes away. I have another one that should be born in June so looking forward to that too. I'm just starting this process. You must be a pro by now!

Yes, I have had quite a bit of experience, especially as they always seem to run to grandad about everything. I am quite good at kissing it better too. It is a joy to behold, I make a fool of myself with the younger ones. Hope you have as much or more pleasure with yours as I have had with mine, trust me it is worth your time, efforts and attention. Of course you will realise that you must also have eyes at the back of your head as well as the front.
