This made me think of the final stage in lifespan development theory.
The final stage of Erickson's model of human development (65 + age group) is Integrity verses despair. One gets to the later part of their life and looks back over it and if they have achieved their goals and have lived a productive life with few regrets they feel a sense of integrity but if they feel life has failed them and they have not achieved their goals they look back with despair.
I never had goals but they have just evolved. I feel that at the age of 40 (at the middle life stage) I did what most did in early adulthood. That was mostly due to professing and did not know I had a choice to be me or who even 'me' was until I left meetings.

Lately I've been thinking a lot about dying. I'm not sure it's such a bad thing really.
