I found this article under a site entitled, "The Fallacy Detective" and subgroup entitled , "Thinking Tools." For its content, I thought it was worth sharing this video and examples of how a discussion can so easily turn into a fight ~ along with suggestions on what to do to avoid this scenario. Please leave your comments after viewing this video and article with examples, as I feel this is a good subject to explore on proboards? www.fallacydetective.com/articles/read/a-discussion-a-disagreement-an-argument-and-a-fightP.S. ~ I just discovered that you can't see the video was disabled by the user at this site, but the article is self explanatory and very informative.

I just found a humorous thread I created a while back that reminded me so much of proboard behavior. What do you think? Does anything sound familiar here?

Actually, this Fallacy Detective site is pretty cool and has plenty of tips for good communication. For instance, this one about how to stop a fight with logic. Any comments? Please express yourself ~ don't be shy. Afterall, asking questions and sharing opinions is the purpose of pro-board discussions along with the hope of gaining new insights, IMHO.

I thought what does logic and fallace have in common but think I read it wrong When I took a course in logic, the first thing we learned about was arguments that do not use good logical aka informal fallacies. Usually a couple chapters in a logic textbook are devoted to learning about fallacies. I was fascinated because I was able to clearly see that many of the workers replies to questions are fallacies. I have one book titled "100 Fallacies." Many well used fallacies have Latin names--showing how long ago they were figured out by scholars.

I thought what does logic and fallace have in common but think I read it wrong Bubbles ~ I feel Cherie answered your question quite well. I have also studied in this area and feel it's worthy of consideration to consider these fallacies whenever engaging in debate. Being able to recognize ad hominens (attacks against the person) and other forms of detraction from the subject under discussion, can save you a lot of frustration and aid you in getting your point across without incident. when someone is doped up on drugs and alchohol logic goes right out the window... when someone is doped up on drugs and alchohol logic goes right out the window... ....or doped on religion!
You know the opiate of the people:
"Religious distress is at the same time the expression of real distress and the protest against real distress. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, just as it is the spirit of a spiritless situation. It is the opium of the people. The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is required for their real happiness. The demand to give up the illusion about its condition is the demand to give up a condition which needs illusions." Karl Marx, Critique of Hegels Philosophy of Right
