Anyone have recommendations for inspirational/uplifting movies? Am a truther that recently discovered the lies about truth and just acquired a television and dvd player. Don't care for most movies but do like stories with a positive moral. Thanx!

I am not sure that the following movies are all uplifting, but there are definetyly some good lessons in them for me. Chocolat , The Village, A Walk to Remember, Schindler's List. A documentary that you would find VERY interesting, I think , is "Called to be Free". It is about the Worldwide Church of God, Armstrongism , and its journey from believing they were the ONE true church to believing JESUS is the way. It can be obtained from www.macgregorministries.org/videos/videos.html . Another one, although very hard to find, is "The Blessing" by Dr. Gary Smalley. We watched it with one of the friends and her comment was, "why don't we get that kind of teaching" to help us from ........ Oh, if you like southern gospel, you might enjoy Gaither Family . For myself I preferred their "older" style singing, but that's okay. One more progarm, depending on where you live, you can watch "Tribal Trails". It is an aboriginal Christian program, half hour, lots of testimonies from aboriginal people and how the Lord transformed their lives. I guess, I'm a little biased on that one, since I happen to know some of the people on that program, including VERY occasionally, my sister~~~~ My favorite Bible teacher is Charles Price on a program called "The Living Truth", from the The People's Bible Church in Toronto. We know quite a n umber of ex's that appreciate that program . Alvin

Well Ronald, glad to hear you have left a life of lies and found the truth. I read about that famous Rhett Butler quote in Gone With The Wind, "Frankly my dear, I don't give a dam!" It scandalized the whole world. We all now wonder what the fuss was about. I lived through all that Elvis the Pelvis business - swinging his hips in a lewd fashion. Hard to understand what people were on about, really. Didn't Elvis say he was a "Christian." And Benny Hill. If there was ever a man who could stick it to those sanctimonious guardians of pudicity, it was Benny and his lucious stable of scantily dressed women! There he was, looking up their dresses. Suddenly the seriously crude was merely funny. And there's John Cleese and his blasphemous Life of Brian. Watch the scene where Mary says "He's not the Messiah, he's just a naughty boy!" Two people in England lodged complaints about the movie. "Something about Mary" was groundbreaking in making soft porn respectable - some of my workfriends raved about it! Masturbation, sodomy, sex, you name it. Then there was a famous toilet scene in Dumb and Dumber. An executives said it was done to test public taste - the public loved it! And how could kids possibly laugh at Shrek III without the obligatory fart scenes? One Disney executive, in justifying a few crude jokes and fart scenes in a Disney movie explained "We don't live in a Norman Rockwell world anymore." Now, there's a bit of Truth for you Ronald.

I have seen all the films listed so far, with the exceptions of Contact, Hitchhiker's Guide and Halloween. Contact and Hitchhiker's guide are both rated PG and anything with Matthew McConaughey and Jodie Foster ( Contact) can't be all bad. Halloween is a horror flick, FWIW. The only film listed so far that would probably seriously test your sensibilties is Good Will Hunting. If you're not used to F Bombs bursting, I'd pass - even though it does tell a very interesting story and has some great acting. To help sort through all this, a site that has been helpful to me for a long time is www.rottentomatoes.com What I've done is found the types of films I like, and then find the reviewers that have similar tastes as mine. For example we really enjoyed Return to Me and Serendipity - both romantic comedies. Romantic comedies get panned by alot of critics as too sappy, but Brian Webster really likes them. So his reviews carry more weight for me. Additionally, if you've never seen anything animated by Pixar, you've got to check one out. Finding Nemo is an excellent example. A really good movie that's out right now and will be on DVD in a few months is In Search Of Happyness. Really inspirational true story. If you want to venture out into the theatres, this would be a great one to try. Trust me. Last, but not least one of the all-time classic rags to riches inspirational films is the original Rocky.

I forgot a couple.
If you like true life stories with drama, Amistad is outstanding.
If you like comedy, Groundhog Day is a classic, it's good, clean fun and tells a very meaningful story that absolutely belies an extremely far-fetched story line. All serious movie fans should see this film.

In Pursuit of Happiness is the title not In Search Of Happiness. Amistad and Groundhog Day are good and I would not go with the Harry Potter movies no matter how good they are witchcraft is satanic and a house devided against itself can not stand (niv-- mat 12:25, mrk 3:25, luke 11:17). So how can Harry defeat evil when he breaks earthly and heavenly rules? not to mention the fact that kids idolise him (niv-- exodus 20:3{no god before me} leviticus 19:4{idols})

It's The Pursuit of Happyness (yes, "happiness" is deliberately misspelled in the title).
How can Harry defeat evil? Perhaps he won't in the end - the last book hasn't been released yet. But it's fiction, so there's this thing called "suspension of disbelief" that comes into play.
