I believe Jesus was saying that the life he was living is the way to the Father. Yes, I agree that is included in the package of Salvation/Eternal life. đWe must try to follow his examples to be like him like showing divine love and forgive others when they sins against us. Go the second mile, show compassion, slow to anger donât hold grudges over night, Show kindness, help the needy and so on live a life like Jesus when he lived on the earth as best as the fruit of the Spirit, which you have given us by the Godhead. I write this with love and in the hope that the next time you find yourself spouting these words of Jesus, you will take the time to reflect on the truth therein.
Who hasnât heard Jesus famous commandment, âDo unto others as you would have them do unto youâ.
This adage is not original in that it is found in slight variations in all cultures of the world. Among the Jews it was known to have been the central teaching of Rabbi Hillel (30 BCE â 10 CE), a spiritual and ethical leader of his generation.
Hillel said, âDo not do unto others that which is hateful unto thee.â This is not the same in any, way, shape or form to the twist put on his words that are attributed to Jesus.
Hillelâs statement tells what not to do to others. Jesusâ statement on the other hand is utterly different in connotation.
Jesusâ statement is about what we want from others. My behavior becomes dependent on what I can get or imagine I can get from others. This leads to using people for personal ends.
Again, Jesusâ statement obliges you to treat others in whatever way you want them to treat you. This is called prudential (directional) morality, a moral code that obliges us to do things for the betterment of our own souls. If we do good for others we will be rewarded for doing so. Philosopher Walter Kaufmann, in The Faith of a Heretic, writes that Judeo-Christian morality âdoes not know the value of a deed done for its own sake.â Jesusâ commandment is about desire. âThink about what you would like others to do for you, then do it for them, not for their good, but for the reward it will bring you.â This has nothing to do with responsible regard for others.

All is good. When you mentioned leaving the world behind, it reminded me of what I was taught growing up. Nathan took it all wrong and went berserk. If you don't mind, what did they teach you? What I said earlier that we were to set apart from the world. I wasn't allowed to be a cheerleader or play sports as it would call attention to me. And then there were those short cheerleader outfits! When I asked why the 2x2's didn't help those in need like other churches did, I was told we don't mingle with the world. It just fit with the exclusivity of the cult. |

I heard that preached a lot growing up. To me, it fit right in with the exclusivity of the cult. When I saw other churches helping the needy, I questioned why the 2x2's didn't reach out to others. I was told we weren't to mingle with those not of the faith/the world. I guess the good Samaritan story went right over their heads. Hi again, is this reply because of what I wrote or Nathan? If me, then, when I say the world, I don't mean don't mix with people, I mean don't do things wrong that others are doing. But I'd mix with and help anyone. The pharisees condemned Jesus because they said he ate and mixed with "sinners," but Jesus cared about everyone, he didn't care what the pharisees thought. How can we look down on someone because they don't believe as we do? Or judge them when we don't know what they've been through? I've got no right to look down on anyone, I'm no better than anyone else, but I can't join in if I see them doing wrong before God. And I think that the stuff that Nathan is looking at online is wrong, and we have to be careful what we delve into as we can get carried away and it can take over us. All the things that the world are taken over by, I'm not interested in, I leave the world to the things of the world, but I still care about the people in the world. Just look at the poor lad who passed away from that pop band one direction, you'd think he had everything, looks, youth, fame, wealth, the world at his feet. But inside he couldn't cope with it all and he was in turmoil. The things of this world look wonderful but the deeper you go into them, the more you get pulled in. Like drugs for instance, apparently they feel great at first, but look what some people end up like, they are pulled into a pit that they can't get out of, they are in their own personal hell, and that's what I see hell as, it starts in this lifetime, when the world and the lusts of our flesh take us over and we can't get out. And that's what Jesus came for, he came to show us and teach us to turn from these things, to pull us out of hell and bring us to God. And like in the old testament with the animal sacrifices where they cut the animals throat with a clean cut, we do the same in the Spirit, not literally, but rather as a living sacrifice and stop what we are doing wrong, like the saying says "put a knife to your throat." In other words stop what you are doing when you know it's wrong, before you get pulled too far in. And the more we turn from the wrong things we do, the cleaner our hearts and mind become and the more at peace we become. God has helped me overcome many things, I've had my head in my hands crying in the past thinking I'll never get out of some situations, I've been absolutely tormented, but God has pulled me through, and my mind is a lot clearer and God is helping me daily fight the wrong in me, and if I'm not sure I go back to Jesus my cornerstone and think "what would Jesus do" but I'd never ever look down on anyone else. I'm no better than anyone. I hope I've made that clear now đ All is good. When you mentioned leaving the world behind, it reminded me of what I was taught growing up. Then why are you two bringing the World Trash into your homes by using the computers? I know and heard the overseers use the Trust fund to donate some of that money to Red Cross, and flood and earthquake area. I know the friends in medical field as nurses and some doctors have volunteers into major disasters to help out. I have give money to the needy at work when they need help, the homeless, and donation to charity and many of the friends have done it also. I have read the friends do volunteer works in their community so, please get your facts straight. You are what you dwell on, Natie.
