I just finished listening to the 2nd book in the series and I'm officially hooked. This book was better than the 1st one. I felt the same way about the 2nd book in the Dresden files series.
Before the latest Harrison novel, I had just finished up the 2nd Dexter book, which was also pretty good.
Right now I'm listening to my 3rd Lincoln Child book . . . Cabinet of Curiosities. It's interesting so far, but I've a feeling that I missed another Lincoln Child book that must have come before this one (not the Pendergast books, but another one involving Brownback and Nora what's-her-name).

I have read a few of the Douglas Preston/Lincoln Child books and always liked them. I don't think I have read Child alone, though.

Brain fart - I meant to say PRESTON CHILD . . . . their 3rd book in the Pendergast series is what I'm listening to. I'm currently looking for the book that may have come before that one - "Thunderhead".
They sure have written A LOT of novels together.
I haven't listened to any of their solo work yet . . . (though my local library does carry a Preston audiobook "The Codex" - perhaps I'll check that one out soon).

Thunderhead...I think that was the first one of theirs that I read. It was about a treasure in a deep pit on a small island off the coast of Maine. Nope. That was Riptide. It was a ripping good book. I read Thunderhead later.

Yeah, Thunderhead takes place in Utah, or something like that. There are several references to it in the current book I'm listening to. Is Riptide a Pendergast story, or one of their other unrelated novels?

It is not a Pendergast story. Reading Thunderhead made me want to head out to canyon country. It is a good story.

Yeah, I've read good reviews for it, but I'm having difficulty locating an audiobook. The only one I found so far - on eBay - is an abridged version. I hate abridged audiobooks.

Hmm. You might have to break down and actually read the thing, y'know?

I know, dang it. I just rarely take the time to sit down and read a novel nowadays. The convenience of audiobooks and all that . . . .

I hear ya. I used to do the audio thing when my commute was a bit different. Then I figured out how to read and drive...

Actually, I've found that listening to audiobooks while driving - at least, audiobooks I've never heard before - isn't the best thing for me to be doing. One evening, while engrossed in the final action scenes of a particularly good novel, I went right past my turn . . . . not safe. Thus, I no longer listen to new audiobooks while driving.

Well, I haven't missed any turns yet, but the occasional car stopping in front of me has elevated my seratonin levels at times. I don't even attempt it on some roads, but on a clear, straight road, my Spidey sense alarms me of anything unusual happening, like a car in the wrong place, pulling in front of me.

Hey! I drive more competently with a book than most cell phone users that I see. So if they are safe, I'm safer.

Books aren't too bad, but newspapers are a bit of a pain... (I have been caught reading a map or talking on my cell phone.....) Scott the safety first biker dude....
