Please tell me a little bit about lamb chops; what are they like, how do you cook them, are they expensive...etc. Thank you

In regards to price: it will all depend on which country you're in Here in Australia Lamb chops are quite reasonably priced (one of the cheaper cuts thank goodness!). Lamb chops can be cooked on a frypan on med-high heat for about 4 minutes each side - or alternatively if you like your meat really well done - cook them for about 6 mins each side. They can be cooked in a crock pot or many different other ways too - marinated etc

Hehe...leave it to an aussie to know about mutton (aussies & kiwis). I'm a yank...and I've never eaten lamb...but after living right next door to a sheep slaughter facility (run by an Ethiopean immigrant) I've developed a curiosity as to the consumption of lamb. I'm not much of a cook...but I have no problem with broiling steak in my little oven. Going by your directions...plus my experience with steak... I'll try cooking my lambchop (don't have one yet) just like I would a beef steak (I like my steaks singed on the outside & rare on the inside). Thanks again aussiegal. I'll let you know how things turn out.

OI... no mating us up with the Kiwis... LOL ;D Actually another really nice way to do them is to sear them on a really hot pan (about 1 minute each side)... and then put them in the oven with a little rosemary sprinkled on top... about 20 mins or so Quite tender then and medium - so still a little juicy

I've never had lamb....and never tried a "real" gyro with lamb meat in it. I've always heard about people making leg of lamb for a fancier type of dish...but I guess I just can't get past the image...I know it's the same as eating anything else, but....I don't know. Does it taste like anything else I might know (chicken?? LOL) or does it has it's own distinct flavor?? M.

imo, you cant miss by loading up any kind of lamb meat with garlic and anise. but lamb without any other spices is quite ''bland'' , imsvho

Not many people like plain lamb meat, either, you got to spice it up a lot.

Not many people like plain lamb meat, either, you got to spice it up a lot. That seems like a rather broad sweeping statement. I think the reason why many people experience lamb with a variety of spices is because it is a staple of many ethnic groups and savory lamb goes well with their popular spicy flavors.

It's a really good meat for curries M A "fancy" dish is lamb shanks that you can do... quite juicy and nice. I do agree with adding some spices to it... As far as tasting like anything? It can be similar in texture to beef (Not chicken! LOL)... it generally is a very soft meat - especially when you roast it. Chops are a little tougher ;D I do recommend trying some - let me know what sort of cut you get and I'll send through a recipe for you

Does anybody, have an easy lamb chop casserole recipe? I vaguely remember one some of the friends cooked with and wish I had it for nostalgia's sake. It had onions and used shoulder chops and maybe rosemary but being very small at the time, that's about all I remember!

I like lamb chops very much, but can't eat them as they won't stay in my tummy. The meat is very rich.

It wouldn't be any good for me. I couldn't even drink the milk. We had goats and mom would try and disguise it in cookies and I still couldn't eat it. It tasted like the goat smells to me.

One way of combatting the gamey smell or taste of some of the stronger meats is to soak it in salty water for an hour or three.

I remember going to Sunday meetings with my parents to a home where the couple had a shed and fenced in area in their backyard where they kept goats. The goat milk they served us tasted okay, except for the ton of goat hair in it!

I ruined a nice Greek salad recently with goat feta

Lamb isn't something we can easily find in my neck of the woods. The first time I had them was at a Greek restaurant in Las Vegas. They were delicious! Those ones stayed in my tummy, but when I cooked them at home, they didn't. Haven't tried them after that.

Some cuts, like the shanks are a bit meaty I guess.
