If anyone likes super awesome books check out Brandon Sanderson's book "Mistborn", which is part of a trilogy which is still being written, but the second book came out not that long ago, and it's called "The Well of Ascension". A really good read, so if u like books that are nearly immpossible to put down, these are it! To read the first chapter of "Mistborn" click this link www.brandonsanderson.com/book/Mistborn/page/17/Mistborn-Chapter-OneIt has a total of the first 3 chapters to sample, but you can check it out at the library if you like it

I'm a fan of fantasy. Robert Jordan, Greg Keyes, Robin Hobb, Terry Goodkind, and Terry Brooks are some of my favorite authors.

Im in the middle of the High Druid of Shannara right now. It was the Sword of Shannara that got me into fantasy back when I was just a teen. I've been away from it for awhile and am just heading back into it. I dont really know any current writers though. I think I read some Terry Goodkind back in the day but I'll need to check out the others you listed. Christ's Blessings Cat

Like you, I started with The Sword of Shanara back when I was a teen. I read all of that series, but liked the first one best. In fact, I really never cared much for any other of his Shanara tales, although I have read most of them. He wrote a series not so long ago called The Word and Void Trilogy that contained Running With the Demon, A Knight of the Word, and Angel Fire East. It was a great contemporary fantasy series full of lots of concepts that are current themes from our news media as well as New Age concepts. The series that he is currently working on is set in a future time, but bridges the Shanara stories through The Word and the Void. It's sort of neat. It ties all of his stories into a single thread. I think it will end up that the world of Shanara is really our world in the distant future.
Terry Goodkind's first few books are good, then the plot sort of deteriorates into meaningless drivel. Robert Jordan is the same way. The first few books of his Wheel of Time series are fantastic, but the plot gets bogged down with trivial events and dialog. He is eleven books deep in the series and has what may be a fatal disease. Each book is a chapter in the overall story and not a complete work in itself. The first few sort of had good ending points, so you weren't left hanging, but the later ones just stopped. Goodkind, while writing a larger story, each book is about a specific problem and has a clear ending.
Ah, I could ramble on all day about books...

I feel the same way about Shannara, yet for some silly reason I need to finish them all off. I cant just quit. Gotta tie up loose ends. Close out the series. I am, here shortly, going to start the Word and Void trilogy. I have had it in mind for some time. I just have to space my reading out....the hubby doesnt like it when I read too much. Books are far worse for me that the TV. Thats why I dont like to get a REALLY good book. I cant put it down and then the poor kids suffer....no supper, no bath, etc ;D Luckily they are getting big enough to fend for themselves Christ's Blessings Cat

Wow! That is long! It must be unabridged. Let us know what you thought of it when you are done with it. What is everybody reading now? Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell for me. The nonfiction account of the sole survivor of a Navy SEAL Team in Afghanistan. OO-RAH!

Well, I recently finished listening to the 2nd book in the Dexter series and I'm currently listening to The Good, The Bad, and The Undead (a Kim Harrison series about a witch who's kind of like an FBI agent). The first book in the series was Dead Witch Walking.
I'd like to listen to another Dresden Files novel, but I don't think book #5 is available yet on audiobook.

It might not be out on audio yet... It was published in 2006 or 2007... do they make audio out of new books?

Sometimes they do. In fact, they usually do, I think.

I think so, too. I'm pretty sure my sis usually listens to books on tape that have been fairly newly released....M.

do they make audio out of new books? Usually the audiobooks are released after the book is published, but sometimes that's not always the case. With the last Harry Potter book, the audiobook came out the same day the book did, which was kind of unusual.

I think it depends on the success of the author. If I had a book published, it might never make it to audio.
