Reposted: We need some new threads on this board, so I'm going to try to think of some. As I'm about ready to go sit down and finish a book, this one came to mind first.... Name some of your favorite authors and/or reads here. My favorite romance authors are Nora Roberts and Debbie Macomber. For a bit of suspense thrown in, I like Patricia Cornwell. If you can name me some terrific authors who write romance/mystery/suspense combos, I will be very pleased! Thanks! M.

Cool! I've never posted on the Worldly Board, think I'll be shunned?
"Star Man's Son 2250 A.D." is without a doubt my favorite book outside the Scriptures! I cut my Science Fiction teeth on this novel by Andre Norton. I've read almost every SiFi novel she wrote and even a few of her fantasy novels.
Clifford Simack, Nicholas Yermakov, Robert Silverberg (with his wonderful novels of tower cities and explorations of death and re-birth as resurrected humans by scientific process.
So many other SiFi books that the Workers would have plucked BOTH eyes out for offending me. My first few single years away from home I did not even consider a TV because there was a bookstore in the plaza of the building complex where I worked and another about 6 blocks away for weekend emergencies!
The "Left Behind" series were pretty cool and my sister and I could discuss each new one as it was released (in paperback, we ain't rich) for hours.
William Shatner wrote the "Techwar" series of SiFi paperbacks but the Captain is not too good an author. Good ideas. Good plot. Great story line but he likes to invent new "catch words" for future products and items and then uses them into the ground...
And then there is "The Andromeda Strain." Right up there with "Star Man's Son" in my book. I've read it about 7 times!
Getting a little bit away from SiFi I love to read Robin Cook. "Coma" was his first and one of his best. A nurse gave the book to Me when I was going into the hospital for some major surgery. She had a neat sense of humor!
Other than the Bible and Woodworking Catalogs I don't have the chance to read much anymore. Single dad (well almost, most likely) to an almost 7 year old takes more time than there is in a day! I wouldn't trade it for all the books in China!
Peace in Him,
SBB

I enjoy reading any book written by Nicholas Sparks. Some of his books have been made into movies.

Me too, bunny. I have several of his and have read most of the rest. For me, romance-wise, I love Nora Roberts and Debbie Macomber. They are my faves, but most any romance book is ok by me. Hey, imma girl. whaddya want??? I enjoy autobiographies most of the time, as well, and thoroughly enjoy a good mystery/suspence. The only thing is, they usually cause me to lose sleep...because I just can't WAIT to find out whodunnit! M.

The Plantation Trilogy, by Gwen Bristow
Anything by Danielle Steel...I found The Long Road Home particularly interesting, as it is about a nun who is kicked out of the convent...with nothing, and pregnant.
Anything by Lavyrle Spencer
The Thorn Birds, by Colleen McCullough...about a gal who has a long term affair with a priest.
Happy reading!

WTBWG...
Some of my favorite authors are: Barbara Delinsky Susan Wiggs Karen Kingsbury (Christian Fiction)
I too am a big Debbie Macumber fan. My sisters and I have discovered Karen Kingsbury and now we're hooked! Her stories are really clean... so if you are looking for the steamy scenes you may not like her. But, they are a change of pace.

Debbie Macomber doesn't have much "steam" at all either...very little if any in that regard...so I would probably like her. (Karen) Thanks! M.

Hi M. Authors I really like are Emma Darcy and Carole Mortimer. I used to subscribe to the "Jasmine" series of Harlequin Mills and Boon... as well as to the "Intrigue" series. If you want some books I have a few thousand here I can give away! LOL Vianne.

Lol...thanks Vianne, but I wouldn't have you spend shipping when I can get them so cheaply here...I buy a lot of them at our local St. Vincent/DePaul store for 10 cents apiece, so you can't get much cheaper than THAT! I only buy my very favorite authors new...Nora, Debbie, etc. I still read Harlequins when I just want to relax for a couple hours and be able to finish it all fairly quickly...I like to take my time and enjoy my favorites a bit more.... PS...I like Carole Mortimer too. M.
