I picked mine because it is a picture of one of my favorite characters. And take it from me.... he's a real character.
This guy has just about done it all. He has had lots of ups and downs in his life. Made lots and lots of mistakes along the way.
Loved often and lost almost as many times...
Even with all the crap he's went through in his life because of where he is now, he knows that if he could do it all over again.... Well....
He'd do it all over again.
Just wish he was better looking is all.....

Ya gotta love Homer Simpson.
Homer embodies several American working class stereotypes such as being crude, overweight, incompetent, intolerant, clumsy, thoughtless and a borderline alcoholic. Despite his apparent blue-collar status, he has had a number of remarkable experiences. Although gluttonous, lazy, accident-prone and extraordinarily stupid, he has occasionally displayed flashes of brilliance and an integrity reflecting his own values. It is partly because of these contradictory attributes that Homer has been recognized by fans and media organizations alike as one of the greatest comedic creations of modern times. - Wikipedia
Is that really me? ;D

Now there's a temporary solution." * "To alcohol, the cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems." * "Lord help me, I'm just not that bright." * "Dear God, give a bald guy a break."

My mission in life is to make the world a better place for gay people.
I believe that happens progressively as non-gay people become more comfortable with gay people. I am firmly convinced that as familiarity grows, discomfort decreases.
My little part is to be completely open about myself so that the people I meet and become acquainted have an opportunity to become a bit more familiar with gaydom in as much as gaydom is reflected in and represented by me.
Hence, on this board, I always post with my full name, and my avatar is always a photo of me and my partner.

Captain Jack Sparrow reflects the sort of image that I have of myself. Crude, bumbling, contradictory, humorous, and not to be taken too seriously. Some people have taken it that I, in some way, resemble this Johnny Depp character. They are gravely mistaken in that assumption.
I am much better looking. ;D

I don't use them for two reasons:
1. Avatar means "an image of a god".
Not so controversial, but it does sort of give me a weird feeling about them once I learned what it meant. However I'm sure no one here chooses an "avatar" for this purpose.
2. I have my own images I would rather use than settle for a number of images I wouldn't coose anyway. I've spent a lot of time and expense to develop my own promotional materials. Smiley faces, goofey clip arts; just aren't for me personally.
Alrighty then!

I think it's funny that when you change your avatar, the avatar on all of your previous posts changes.
I'm too lazy to find an avatar... and I take rotten pictures so I'd never find a real picture of myself to use where my eyes are actually open. I guess I could just find a picture of a hot woman and use that, who would know?

I can't seem to get mine to work... and none of the ones from the dropdown list appeal to me... so I don't have one! Gotta love that bug though... sometimes I look at this board on my pda (it's mobile phone size)... and the bug avatar can take up the whole screen... it's caused great squeals from my daughters who've tried in vain to squash it! ;D

Mine changes frequently. At the moment, I'm confused about how I feel about a LOT of things...so, kitty is confused. (and making me itch, since I'm allergic.)

The hot air balloon which is no longer tied down and is soaring into the uncharted atmosphere symbolizes my newly discovered ability to search for God as I have never known Him before in my spiritual journey..
My "handle" recentarriver indicates the time frame of this hot air balloon in my journey. RA

about my avatar. it was the fireman's video of the first plane hitting the north tower, taken by Jules Naudea and his brother, both firefighters from france doing a documentery on the new york city firefighters.... they filmed the only footage of the hit to the north tower, almost by accident...
president bush insists said in front of a large crowd, that he saw the plane hit the tower that morning, and thought it was a terrible accident. he said he was outside the classroom where he was waiting to be a goat....er...book promoter..lol...and saw it on the tv... but nobody else did. the fact is that this clip was not available, didnt reach the public, or the media outlets until september 12....
but besides the fact that he incrimminated himself, which is very strong evidence in court, there is more to this avatar.
if you slow the frame by frame .. the best clip is from the movie In Plane Site, or the cnn footage, same thing... if you slow the play by play and watch it over and over, clicking manually... you can't tell what it is at first..you just have to study it. back and forth, on a normal sized screen, not on an avatar sized screen. i have a link to the pics of the frame by frame...
basically what happens is that since the shadow of the plane and the plane only meet when the plane hits the tower, and since there is a bright flash before the plane meets its shadow, we know that the flash was caused by something else, and not the plane hitting... this also happens on the tower 2 impact. also, the flash is at least twice as wide as the plane itself, and the plane seems to just slide into what seems like a hole. just before this there is an explosion to the left, and then to the upper right of where the flash occured and then the center explosion, all 3 of these explosions "almost" simultaneously...in the frame by frame there are black dots that at first would seem to be shadows appearing then moving... but when clicked at just the right speed, you can actually see 2 missiles fired... what strange is that once you grasp what you are seeing, the missiles are fired from the rear opposite sides of the tail area of the plane...they almost cross paths, but they are so timed, must be within a small fraction of a second....
flash explosion to left, then upper right, then center...3 separate explosions, merging into one, different than what happened at the south tower.... and the gaping hole that was left in the noth tower is too large to be the imprint of the plane only... the south tower left a very well defined airplane imprint... we all saw it..the lady standing in it, at the location they said was 1500 degress, the 78th floor, where the south tower collapse began.
and the explosions in the two towers were different from each other also.....
