YIKESSSSSSSSSSS! I've already been in F&W chat bemoaning my fate tonight, but I'm gonna have a moan about it here, too... ;D My son had soccer playoffs today (they took 1st place in their division, by the way...AND the sportsmanship trophy..which is JUST as great, IMO!) ...anyway, we were out there for 8 hours and it was nearly 100 degrees. When we left at 6:00 pm the bank in town said 98...so it had to have hit 100. In northern WI, that's pretty unusual in itself! Anyway....I put spf 30 on allll dayyy and I am stilllll a stinkin' LOBSTER. I mean...the ...I can barely stand or even move in my chair..if I even get up, let alone walk, it's very very painful. ugh. I used most of a bottle of aloe vera gel in a few hours...going to my mom/dads to get theirs early in the am...my skin is still stretched so taught it feels like it's going to break! I've stopped now, but my teeth chattered uncontrollably for about an hour straight. I know it's a bad burn, but is there REALLY anything the dr. could do about it if I went to after hours tomorrow? My thought is probably not, so why waste time and money...but I've had a lot of burns in my life (very light skin, unfortunately!) and this is one of THE worst pain wise....my chest, arms(wore swimsuit top to not have a farmer's "tan" (yeah right..TAN)but by FAR the worst is my legs....it's so red it's got a purple tinge if that makes sense!!! hahha... I've done the cool bath and actually had a difficult time getting up/out as I could barely bend my legs... Any thoughts/ideas/suggestions anyone??? I don't have a "real" aloe vera plant..I sure wish I did about now!!!!! Thanks, Mich

Pasted text ------------------------------------------ When to Seek Medical Care If you feel your sunburn is severe enough, call your doctor. You most likely will be asked how severe your condition is and if you have any other significant health problems. The doctor can then make the decision to treat you at home or in the office or refer you to an emergency department.
Conditions that should motivate you to go to a hospital's emergency department include the following:
Severe pain
Severe blistering
Headache
Confusion
Nausea or vomiting
Fainting
An acute problem with another medical condition

Thanks you two
Aloe is helping, but I've gone through 2 *bottles* in less than 24 hours. No matter how much I put on, it just sinks in. I have a pretty high pain tolerance as a general rule, but this has had me in tears a few times already> I tried to get sleep this am, and I slept about an hour..when I got up, as I hadn't been moving, it took me at least 5 min. to stand...it was sooo painful. Same thing after I napped later this morning. Can still barely walk. I think I should have gone to after hours or something...but my mom just picked up 3 more bottles of aloe for me....so hopefull that will get me through the next couple days. Cool bath felt really good, but I thought I would die tryin' to get out of it again...having to bed legs, etc.
ARGH! It will be gone in a few days, it will be gone in a few days........thanks for lettin' me whine! M.

It doesn't smell so good, but apple cider vinegar is a good pain reliever and helps take away the burn. Rub it on often, all over the red areas. Like I said, you'll smell like a salad, but it will help.
Good luck!

I did a little search for you..... www.care2.com/greenliving/apple-cider-vinegar-kitchen-cupboard.htmlOR...(Or just do a google search yourself.) SUN BURNS If the sunburn is localized, apply full strength apple cider vinegar on the affected skin to obtain relief. Do this by soaking a thin towel in apple cider vinegar and placing it over the burn. Leave it on to help prevent peeling and itching. If the sunburn covers a large part of the body then try this home remedy recommended by Patricia Bragg in her book called Apple Cider Vinegar-Miracle Health System: Take a cool bath in which one cup of ACV has been added. After soaking in the bath, gently dry the body and pat ACV directly onto the needed areas. Wait 5 minutes, then pat on aloe vera gel.

You know - I think it may be wise to seek a doctor. I don't know for certain what they can do beyond what you've done, but perhaps some pain medication? I'd recommend contacting your doctor's office and talking to a nurse there - they can probably give you more information. (I'm an RN - but I do heart stuff - don't know what the ER does for sunburns - but do know they have some EXCELLENT burn cremes!) I'm sorry you burned so badly! Feel for ya!

Actually, yesterday morning (Wed) I finally did go to ER..couldn't handle it anymore. They said I have second-degree burns on my legs and prescribed to me a good pain killer (thank GOODNESS) and bacitracin for the antibiotic ointment to keep on them and said to take 4 ibuprofin (to reach prescription dose) every 4 hours....and then just wait it out! It's not really much better yet, but the pain meds DO help and the swelling has gone down a little bit...(I look like I might have an ankle in there somewhere again!) so I'm glad I went. Thanks! Michelle PS..she was going to give me silvadine burn cream...said it's the best...but I'm severly allergic to sulfa (found out by ending up in ER twice in teh same weekend with the antibiotic Bactrim one time....face all swollen, lips, body w/hives etc... ;D )so that didn't work! M.

For anyone who cares/is still reading this, glad to say after TWO weeks I'm healed! YAY really sensitive in a few places yet, especially onthe right sides of my legs, but I shaved today and it didn't make me scream! Woooooooooot.....don't have to look like a bushman any longer..hehe. Yuck. After some major (but gentle!) scrubbing tonight, the peeling is even mostly gone..human again! Thanks for all who commented and cared...it's great to not feel pain when I walk....really makes you appreciate the simple things sometimes!!!! Mich
