I would l love to post a picture! Can someone explain please. You mean as an avatar? For that, I use imageshack. Upload a photo there, then use the url they provide to link to that pic from the tmb board.

I posted a pic of myself when I first registered and I got tons of slack from people. I was accused of it not being a real picture of me....LOL! Someone else suggested I just not post a picture.

All pictures and avatars need to be first placed on some kind of web available storage space. Then just pasting the URL (web address) to the picture in a reply will automatically create a link in the post to the picture. If you want the picture to be presented directly in the post then place the address to the picture between the tags [/img]. (there is a button for this -- fourth from the left on the bottom row)

Thanks for the info Edgar but I am so "dense" when it comes to computers. I am still trying to figure out what you mean . Do you mind explaining to me what a web available storage space is? Thanks Gem

I would love to post a picture! Can someone explain please. I had another PM asking about this recently, and scholargal has sent me some helpful instructions. They contain some html so I'm going to ask her to post them here. Anything to brighten up the board, don't be put off by that slack, nurse, if Scott can post his frightening pic's we'd love to see yours too

Actually I need to give ScholarGal more credit, it's a tutorial on posting photos that she wrote especially for me (ie. in very simple code!). ScholarGal mentions since it has some html coding, that 'copy and paste' probably won't work.
However, a sneaky way around this possibly, is to use the 'quote' option and then cut-and-paste that because I think it has the html code.
Thanks heaps ScholarGal!

And just a question.. I vaguely remember someone (Jesse Lackman?) mentioning that there might be some security considerations about publishing pic's in our posts. Like, it allows others if clever enough to see your IP address. Can anyone elaborate? Thanks.

Like, it allows others if clever enough to see your IP address. Can anyone elaborate? Thanks. here is how it works... 1. I put a photo on my website - www.mywebsite.com/photos/iptrick/funny.jpg2. I then create a post on this message board and embed the photo in the post 3. People view the thread as normal and see the photo - and in doing so they visit my website via the photo posted on my website which is embedded in my post. 4. I review my website logs which lists all the IPs that have viewed that photo. Weeeeee...

ProBoards caches many of the images and provides them without having to fetch the image from the server. That, plus the fact that you don't know who the IPs belong to. The vast majority are just reading. However, there are a couple of other methods that are much more accurate and allow a much more complete profile. I doubt that any information gleaned would be very interesting. Many people use IP spoofing software. But I could be surprised and if I look outside maybe I am in Warsaw, Poland (87.204.26.205)!

The avatar is still distorted. If you go into your profile and change the size from 100 X 75 instead of 100 X 100 the distortion will go away. Or it will look like you are squeezing someone's head!

Tutorial on Posting Pictures Proboards does not have image hosting, so you can't post photos directly. You must host the photo elsewhere and link it in the post. To link images, you must add a special tag to the beginning and end of the photo link address in the text of your post. This is called an html image tag. It looks like this when you are writing the post: [img] photo http address [/img] For example: [IMG]http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/4632/roserk1.jpg[/IMG] ImageShack is one of the easiest free image hosting sites to use. No registration required. Here's how to post a photo to TMB using ImageShack: 1. Upload your photo at ImageShack. imageshack.us/2. After you click the upload button and the image finishes uploading to ImageShack, you need to copy the code containing the photo URL so you can paste it in your post on the forum. - For a very small version of the photo, use the code for "Thumbnail for forums (1)". Readers can see the small photo, then click on it to see the bigger version. It will look like this:
- For a regular size version of the photo, scroll down the page and use the code for "Hotlink for forums (1)".
3. When posting images on the forum, be sure to click the "Preview" button before you click the "Post" button. When you click the preview button, you will be able to see whether the photo is linked properly.

No one has ever suspected, but my avatar is not really a picture of me. It's actually a picture of Bert and Prue ;D
