So? wally what is your point?Gun deaths are extremely low in countries like Japan, the United Kingdom, Norway, and Australia.
But the U.S. is in this "elite" group of gun-related deaths. Out of the 250,000 gun-related deaths in 2016, 50.5% occurred in Brazil, the United States, Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, and Guatemala. The United States has the second-highest number of gun deaths with 37,200.
Gun violence is not as large of an issue in every country around the world

The fetid promise is that "gun" control would stop the "gun" violence and/or violence in general. Of course we know it doesn't....

ummm nowhere in the article does it say he was a legal firearm owner. I know. You should ask me how I knew it was a legal gun.

Essentially it would seem to have been a massive failure on the part of relevant police departments to give this person his shotgun and licence back after they were removed from after an assault charge. His mother had also tried to get him mental health help and had failed, sadly she was his first victim.
However, I can pretty much guarantee that it'll cause a tightening up of things in respect to legal gun ownership in the uk, to make it less likely that it'll happen again; unlike in the USA where it will happen again next week somewhere and somewhere else the week after that and so on.
In the UK the two major gun killings were Hungerford and Dunblane in the 1980s and 1990s respectively. Hungerford brought about the removal of semi auto rifles and shotguns of more than 3 rounds. The principal weapon used was a Norinco 56 (semi auto AK clone). Dunblane brought about the removal of pistols as the 4 pistols used were legally held. Clearly there are illegal pistols etc floating around the UK criminal world and these do get used in shootings but mercifully the killings of innocent bystanders are few and far between though it has happened. This shooting in Plymouth and the one in Cumbria a few years ago were carried out with shotguns which are the easiest firearm to get a licence for in the UK and will be the hardest to tighten up on I suspect. I think that the tightening up will come in terms of whether or not there is a justifiable reason to own a shotgun, whereas right now you do not have to give reasons for ownership of a shotgun in the same way that you do for a rifle. And also you do not have to prove your use of said shotgun in order to maintain your licence as you do with a rifle.
Looking at the UK record on gun deaths I think it is fair to say that gun control legislation has proved effective.
