Cops deal with people on their worst days. Conflict is part of the job. I fully support them. This whole "defund the police" nonsense is ludicrous.
There are bad cops. The car cameras and body cams show us. But for every one incident of a cop behaving poorly, there are millions of interactions which are non remarkable, and/or positive. We don't see those so much.
There's a line from Liar Liar where Carey (who can't lie) is asked for his legal advice when a return client robs an ATM. He screams into the phone: "STOP BREAKING THE LAW, A******!"

All true. A majority of cops are certainly worth their salt. But until the bad cops are dealt with appropriately, it's not at all out of place to expose them -- they are a greater danger to the society than the criminals. Qualified immunity needs to be replaced with higher standards of behavior.

The term sounds crazy... a qualified cop would have no need for immunity right? Imo, the bad ones need to be spotlighted and prosecuted, to protect the good cops. When the public starts doubting the system can be redeemed, the good cops and citizens alike will pay for it.

It is crazy -- indeed.

It has recently been recognized that qualified immunity has been overindulged by elected judges who accept campaign funds from policing entities.

Jeepers! Thanks both - I understand the general rationale now, but see how it can be used to favor law enforcement... crazy...
