one of the most incoherent debates i have ever watched...
1. both sides interrupting each other was a complete turn off... 2. chris wallace never had control of the debate... 3. chris wallace tried to debate trump himself which showed which side he was on... 4. almost no rebuttals allowed...by rebuttal i mean the normal "do you wish to respond, XYZ" 5. the hatred from both sides was so thick you could cut it with a knife... 6. no one won as far as i could tell....

The white racists won. They were asked to stand by. two ways to interpret that. one could mean stand by and be ready the other stand by and watch...i suspect the latter is the case...

I had anticipated Trump wouldn't stick to the the rules but I don't think anyone was prepared for such a fiasco as that!
2. Control the debate? How could you expect Chris Wallace to control that kind of school yard behavior? I kept thinking that if it were me, I'm afraid I would have wanted to get up and say "This NOT a debate, -not what I signed up for, I'm leaving," & walked out.
3. You are wrong! Chris Wallace did NOT try to debate Trump! (You just heard that from Trump who as usual was acting out one of his usual diversions!) The further on it went the more surprised I was that Wallace could even control it as well as he did.
4. How in the hell could there be ANY "rebuttals?" -when Trump would not even shut up and listen without being forced to do so?

Absolutely disgusting, two supposed adult men trading insults. Not good, to think that one of them will become the most powerful leader in the World, frightening. Thank goodness we have good, well balanced, sensible leaders in our part of the World.
There was not a winner, and the World was the loser.

I thought of that as well - but then it occurred to me that they're standing on the same stage, so they would still be distracting each other. Anyway, I still think it's a good idea. Maybe give the moderator a mic switch for each candidate. Or maybe a big sound-proof dome could drop from the ceiling and block out the interrupter until the other is finished.

Knowing Trump,- at first one might think that it was just Trump's usual impulsivity but the more I think about it the more I wonder if Trump didn't know exactly what he was doing and planned to try to throw Biden off track right at the beginning.
I wish that Biden had been better able able to keep his cool but it is rather hard to get your message out with someone doing that.
Interesting comment I just came across.
“Chris Wallace's debate performance tonight is a great reminder that kindergarten teachers are underpaid,”
“The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah tweeted in the midst of the 90-minute encounter.

He tried.

Moderator Chris Wallace struggled to gain control of the 90-minute debate in Cleveland because of frequent interruptions, primarily by Trump.
Wallace, of Fox News, pleaded for a more orderly debate, at one point looking at Trump and saying, “the country would be better served if we allowed both people to speak with fewer interruptions. I'm appealing to you, sir, to do that.”
“Ask him, too,” Trump said.
“Well, frankly, you've been doing more interrupting than he has,” Wallace said.

well if it was a strategy it wasn't a very good one biden only lost his train of thought a couple times that i could tell...losing his cool was more pronounced...then again biden interupted trump to in a tit for tat ploy...

Go back and listen to the debate on YouTube. First question went to Trump and he answered uninterrupted. Next question went to Biden and he answered uninterrupted. Next question went to Trump at which time Biden began the interruptions. Biden broke the rule first and set the pattern for a lousy debate. 4. You are right in that the very first question was not to Biden as I had said but rather the first question was to Trump.
I made a mistake. I need to check myself to be sure I remember something correctly.
I honestly thought that was how it was. Yet I know how easily we can selectively remember some things but forget others and not even be aware that we are doing so. PS: I marked thought the above and put that part in black to indicate it was your post rather than mine, so people wouldn't be confused.
You are right, -what a lousy debate!

In the news today I read where Dr. Fauchi said that Trump took Fauchi's advise out of context during Tuesday night’s debate about wearing of masks early in the pandemic.
Trump claimed during the debate that Fauchi had said, "masks are not good. Then he changed his mind."
I remember very well and also understood very well what & why Fauchi gave that advise at that time.
First, Fauchi certainly did not say that "masks are not good!
Next, Fauchi's statement about masks was because there was a shortage of masks for healthcare workers & we should allow those workers access to them before ourselves!
If I could understand why Dr. Fauchi made the statement why couldn't Trump?

You just remember wrong, wally. But then, that is nothing new, is it?
I remember very well because I was one of a very few that WAS already wearing a mask at that time.
I had some used masks left from times that I had used them when I was refinishing furniture etc. I remember hoping that people would not think that I was denying a healthcare worker the necessary protection that they needed more than I did.
Of course no one would want a mask that had already been used by someone else for painting etc., -but then they would not know that I had had it a long time before the pandemic.

Ok, -wally lets see how much closer you got to "remembering."
You are claiming that what Dr. Fauchi said about masks was that "they didn't work"
Your link was to an article by someone by the name of Matt Novak, - Senior Writer for Gizmodo. I can't find a lot about that journalist. He may well be on the up & up as journalist for all that I can find about him.
However, the title* of the article states this: Dr. Fauci Made the Coronavirus Pandemic Worse by Lying About Masks Matt Novak 6/16/2020
I am telling you wally, that title* claiming Dr. Fauci was lying about masks is a lie in itself!
Never at anytime anywhere did Dr. Fauci ever say that masks "didn't work" and I challenge you, Wally, -to find where Dr. Fauci did NOT say that masks "didn't work" -even in the article you cited!
It actually makes no sense that he would make such a statement!
This is a man who worked in Office of AIDS Research helping George W. Bush develop the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief.
He also worked on the West Nile virus under President Bill Clinton; the anthrax scare and SARS under Bush; and the swine flu pandemic under Barack Obama.
And now here we have a virus that is air born and you get it by breathing into your lungs and Fauchi would tell people that "masks didn't work?"
Does it even make any sense that Fauchi would say what you are claiming?

Never at anytime anywhere did Dr. Fauci ever say that masks "didn't work" and I challenge you, Wally, -to find where Dr. Fauci did say that masks "didn't work" -even in the article you cited!
*footnote -authors often do not have control over the title that the editors attach to their work so the author here may not be responsible for the word "lying" in this title
man your reading skills are in a sad state...its right there in the last paragraph before you click "continue reading" to read the rest of the article.... Wally, I asked you to find a quote from Dr Fauchi himself where HE made a statement that " masks didn't work."
This part of the article which you are citing was not made by him.
"Fauci didn’t just fail to promote masks early on, he actively discouraged the use of masks, saying they didn’t work. THAT -was not a quote from him, -anyone could say that he said something which he never said.
Read what was just above that statement and it IS a direct quote of his. He was responding to why he hadn't promoted wearing masks at that time.
“Well the reason for that is that we were concerned the public health community, and many people were saying this, were concerned that it was at a time when personal protective equipment, including the N-95 masks and the surgical masks, were in very short supply,” Fauci said. “And we wanted to make sure that the people, namely the health care workers, who were brave enough to put themselves in a harm way, to take care of people who you know were infected with the coronavirus and the danger of them getting infected.” Trump can keep right on lying about what Fauchi said and you, wally, -can keep right on believing Trump's lies but I don't even have to check back to know what Fauchi really said because I was listening all along

Speak for yourself, wally. I agree with dimmichgood. Fauci's early concern was to reserve the mask supply for people on the "front lines" like medical staff..
