dmmichgood. Telling me I am an omnivore is inconsistent with how I live. I have not eaten red meat, chickens or pigs for many decades. And have not eaten any animal products for just on twenty years. It is like telling someone they are a murderer because their ancestors killed members of other tribes to survive. Though one may possess the capacity to be something, if they are not behaving in that manner, then how is it rational to make that accusation?

Wally! -you answered Joanna's post by telling her, "you are an omnivore act like one..." but you do not know that she is indeed an omnivore!
Just because you post a site about biology does NOT mean that everyone is an omnivore!
s I know several people who are not omnivores!
Furthermore, YOU have no right to tell her how she should "act!"
you know nothing...everyone is an omnivore whether or not they act like one is another thing...hence my point...act like one... NO! -not EVERYONE is an omnivore!

Similarly, I love my meat, and vegetables, especially what comes out of our garden. I also expect no one to critique my lifestyle. it is out of line for Wally to say what he said.

This is an argument from a point of ignorance, and is the standard one used by supporters of a vegan lifestyle. I have no disagreement with this argument when you are speaking about large scale factory beef production from feedlots.
What regenerative graziers are talking about is something entirely different - holistic planned grazing producing grassfed beef. Instead of net emissions we are talking net sequestering of carbon in the soil. Millions of acres are now operating under this protocol and returning carbon to the soils in grasslands around the world.
Your second point "simple rebuttal / no brainer" is also a fallacy and the cause of carbon emissions - the production of crops such as soybeans, corn, wheat, barley etc is a great emitter of CO2, monocultures leading to a loss of biodiversity, degradation of soils, reliance on fertilizers, fungicides and pesticides. Every time the soil is tilled carbon is lost to the atmosphere. That is not even to take into account the energy used in creating products for human consumption from these grains.
There are ways to reverse this trajectory, it is not in doing away with livestock, but rather in using animals in a planned holistic manner to complement the growing of crops.

Lamb is very good for humans to consume. Remember, in the Bible it says GOD approved man to eat all animals. Being strictly vegan is a good thing too, especially if you're a cow; but, good for humans as well ... to a point. The only thing I've read medically negative about vegan diets is that they weaken the ligaments in some people. I don't think Wally is picking on anyone really. He's a good chap and likes people, from what I can see, but I think he's trying to be helpful. Remember, Roman soldiers had to be strong - not little effeminate weaklings who would lie down and whimper " ... oh my muscles ache ..." They had to be strong as an ox to win wars!!! They ate meat! I was driving a semi during grain harvest hauling grain, as I've done for many harvests. This farmer climbed a step ladder and got into the grain bin. He yelled out to a truck driver " ... hey, hand me that auger/motor assy ..." The truck driver replied " ... ok ...!" I saw the truck driver trying to pick up the auger and motor. He couldn't lift it! He tried with both arms. The farmer got pissed off, came down that step ladder, reached down with one hand, picked up the auger/motor assy like it was NOTHING and carried it up the step ladder and put it inside the grain bin! I was amazed. I asked that farmer later ... " ... what do you eat that makes you so strong ..." "MEAT!" He replied. " ... we raise our own hogs, cattle, sheep, and chickens ..." " ... and we butcher our own meat..." Can you imagine Roman soldiers too weak to fight all day, day after day, without the stamina to keep on fighting and WIN sometimes at the end of the day after having fought all day ... and we're talking about long days! Vegan is good; but, you still need a little meat including lamb and mutton. IMO I don't think Roman soldiers were skinny little weaklings with the physique of a lizard - they were big strong MEN.

Eating meat is NOT what makes you strong!
That farmer was NOT strong just because he ate Meat!
He may have thought that but it wasn't true!

A few years ago we had a chap who lived quite close by, and he was a long distance runner and rider. He competed in Ironman competitions. He had married a woman who had an extremely strong and persuasive character, and she became a Vegan. Soon, he had no choice but to become one and a Pastry crumb in the car gave his penchant away for the odd sneaky meat pie! His wife was a Nurse, so she lauded it over him with medical knowledge. He was an planning engineer and no slouch himself.
Curly will understand this. Quite often he would ride from our town to Awakino and return, and then swim in the Harbour. No mean feat. One day he collapsed and the Rescue Helicopter had to pick him up. He was on the point of death.
The verdict was that he was extremely low on a number of critical minerals.
The doctors said that his Veganism was the culprit and after he was fixed via IV, he was told to eat Red Meat at least three times a week. Absorption of minerals, proteins and vitamins is more efficient that way, even from Vegetables. He, and his wife to her credit, took it on board, and he never looked back, and has never been healthier. He achieved a placing in the Round Lake Taupo challenge last year. As an added benefit, their son's autism seems to have improved.
Now I am not going to say whether the doctors were right or not. Maybe they were not managing the Vegan diet properly, and may their son's autism would have improved anyway. But the anecdotal evidence, and what they did has achieved the right result. He is now the CEO of Wellington Airport.

fred. Humans can be their 'own worst enemy'. An innate resistance to change, by digging our feet into sinking soil, is undermining environmental progress. Animal agriculture's impact on climate change"Animal agriculture is the second largest contributor to human-made greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions after fossil fuels and is a leading cause of deforestation, water and air pollution and biodiversity loss". I am puzzled by your mention of being ignorant given leading scientists are repeatedly emphasising the damage inflicted by animal agriculture on the climate. The amazing thing is that a plant-based/vegan diet has so many positive benefits in addition to reducing climate damage. The human psychology which validates the breeding, rearing and slaughter of sentient beings is one which undermines the very essence of our society. To condone and consume these beings means we are ignoring the suffering of the vulnerable because they cannot protect themselves. This attitude is the same one which causes people to ignore the rights of intellectually disabled humans; little children and others who lack a voice and who cannot protect themselves. Abuse and neglect of the vulnerable are tragically endemic in our societies. Your reference "using animals in a holistic manner" negates the true meaning of holism. Definition of Holism. the theory that parts of a whole are in intimate interconnection, such that they cannot exist independently of the whole, or cannot be understood without reference to the whole, which is thus regarded as greater than the sum of its parts. Holism is often applied to mental states, language, and ecology.Validating the 'use of animals' interconnects with how we treat the vulnerable. An holistic approach to living encompasses compassion; kindness and empathy for the vulnerable of all species. There is no denial that other animals experience fear; pain and grief. And just like us, they experience suffering. Sentience is the key here. And other animals are sentient beings. I consider myself on the level with these beings and that I have no right to regard them as nothing more than commodities that are fit for consumption. When I came to this realisation, it did not conform to the Christian belief system that I was connected to, ...have previously mentioned that a 2x2 worker admonished me saying similar to what jetmech wrote above, that 'god made animals for humans to eat'. The bible was penned by men for men. It is a book framed by patriarchy and subordination of the vulnerable. The bible promotes cruelty on many levels. I had no clue about how giving up meat would impact health. So the other amazing thing was to learn that a balanced plant-based diet is healthier than consuming meats and dairy etc There are even selfish reasons for adopting this lifestyle given the benefits. I hope this is not all coming ax as preachy - as that would be pretty ironic - but honestly the risks of suffering health issues that are linked to animal products, including breast; prostate and bowel cancers; gallstones; cardiac disease; obesity and diabetes are reduced. This site also has some great recipes Top 10 Reasons

I have a registered Nutritionist and Dietician in the family, and my brother is a Doctor. My father was a Pathologist
I did say it was anecdotal, and thereby inferring it wasn't a scientific study. I support a healthy and balanced diet, and am only too well aware of obesity (beaches in Honolulu are an eye-opener) from meat, and also from vegetables (Taro in Pasifika communities)

This site also has some great recipes Top 10 Reasons The only reason human men get prostate from eating meat is because the livestock the meat came from is given hormones to make the animal grow faster and larger, plus commercially grown livestock is fed corn that is covered in pesticides and insecticides etc. The safest meat to buy is purchased at a butcher shop, where they raise the livestock on fresh pasture grass, and when the butcher the animal they don't put any preservatives on the meat whatsoever. How many people reading this have tried FRESH SIDE? Fresh side looks exactly like bacon; but; it has absolutely no preservatives in it whatsoever, no artificial flavorings such as smoke flavor. It is fresh from a hog, and remember pork is really the other white meat. I would challenge anyone who reads this to find some butcher shops online. Call them and see if they sell FRESH SIDE. Buy a half lb or so, ask the butcherer to slice it as thin as possible. When you fry it ... fry it until it's nice and crisp like bacon. Add a little sea salt and enjoy. It is VERY delicious. We used to eat fresh side on the farm.Sometimes my mom would put a fresh side sandwich in out lunch bags, with 3 or 4 strips of fresh side, tomato slice, lettuce, and mayo on white bread. It would give us enough energy to work all day on the farm. Believe me ... if you've never heard of fresh side you'll be glad you tried it.

The first vegan in the Bible was Cain. He tried to give God vegetables. God was displeased and didn't want to eat his vegetables. He wanted fatty meat from dead animals like Abel gave him. The vegan flew into a murderous rage like vegans tend to do. God decided that he liked dead animals so much that people should just kill and waste them to be forgiven for their "sins".
Most vegans now are either atheists or in false religions like Hinduism or Buddhism that are all going straight to hell.

The Buddhists, Hinduism believe in Reincarnation... if you eat cows, pigs, chickens, and so on you could be eating your grandmothers, grandfathers or cousin reincarnate as animals. They don't believe in their grandfathers, grandmothers or cousins will reincarnate as salads, carrots, potatoes, beets so, they eat them instead of meats/animals. That is the TRUTH.As Christians we don't believe in Reincarnation but in the Resurrection. Paul wrote I Tim. 4:4 Every thing that God has created is good; nothing is to be rejected, but everything is to be received with a prayer of thanks.

Is it term for the part of a mans body; The prostate is a walnut-sized gland located between the bladder and the penis.
Often many people get the word "prostate" mixed with the word "prostrate" which means lying stretched out on the ground with one's face downward. That could mean just so tired you had to lay down.
Next, I don't believe that "FRESH SIDE" pork refers only to animals that aren't given hormones etc.

Reducing emissions is not enough - what has to happen and can happen is a reversal of the carbon burden in the atmosphere. This will not happen fast enough with just the removal of cars and herbivores.
This is very true, just witness your refusal to engage with what I have proposed, instead returning to the old strawman argument.....
Just what is 'animal agriculture'? The scientists are correct when they are talking about the factory production of beef in feedlots. As I stated previously this is not what I am talking about.
I am proposing the use of proper planned grazing on the grasslands of the world, mimicking nature, to return the soils to their proper cycles of water, minerals etc. How do you think the grasslands of the world evolved?, in tandem with herbivores and those animals preying on them. In sites over many parts of the world it has been proven to work, sequestering carbon, bringing the soils back to life and increasing biodiversity.
No puzzle - lets just be talking about the same thing.
