Subscribed to SKY the other day after a good sales pitch on the phone. [not a great TV watcher so never been tempted to now). Watching overseas news more and find myself contemplating more about what’s going on in this world of ours! Yes, I feel our Prime minister is of good character. Not an easy task !

Olea we are so fortunate to have good Prime Ministers down under. Jacinta Arden and Scott Morrison are just so committed to their people. They have excelled with the Covid 19 task. Not an easy job but they have been true leaders. NZ is the envy of the World Covid free due to good work by Jacinta. We are in a bit of trouble again mainly in Victoria.
I dared to watch 60 minutes last night expecting to see a follow up story of 2x2 episode last year. It was postponed for an interview with Mary Trump re the book she wrote about Uncle Donald. It really was scary and something the World should be concerned about. Feel very sorry for the people of America.

So much for the Trans Tasman Bubble. Jacinda is is a great communicator, and even those who oppose her, admit that. She is made of steel though, but is a very empathetic person. Her actions over the Mosque shootings were commendable, I thought. Sco Mo after a rough start with the fires, seems to have hit his straps now, and performing well. Regardless of ideology, we have good people at the top.

yesterday at 5:06pm…. Gene, Annan, and 2 more like this Olea said Curly, Well I try to be careful with generalisations. I do remember a couple of nice USA women preachers visiting way back. ..... but I was watching a program on the life of Trump yesterday. His building of the largest gambling casino in the world, the stress he put his father under with money woes, His marriage to a beautiful woman but cheated on her; even arranging for both to be in the same location one vacation. Then divorced the 1st wife & married her and that didn’t last. The 3 management men who were instrumental in the building of Taj Mahal gambling empire died in an air crash and then when in trouble financially he decided to blame the 3 dead men. ...his love of money, his disrespect to women etc etc I found myself wondering why do USA christian men and women support this guy; how come professing people continually uphold him? There are ‘Black and white’ legalistic fundamentalist thinking, [supposedly Christian people], on this site who defend him at every turn. People who are ‘black and white’ re morality. I simply don’t get it. ......................................................................... Olea Jul 27, 2020 18:38:50 GMT 12 Olea said: Maybe someone else could respond to my post, thanks. —————————————————————————————————————————————————— Olea said: And then....the next thing I don’t understand is : how come a country with 330,912,290 odd people can’t put up some credible candidates for Presidency? I don’t know the numbers registered to democratic and republican parties but surely there must be some ambitious credible people out there !! ————————————————————————————————————————————————— Jul 27, 2020 19:43:23 GMT 12 Pragmatic said: There's definitely something skewed with a system that threw up Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump in the last election, and now adds Biden to the mix for this election. Last time there was Ben Carson, and this time there was Tulsi Gabbard. Candidates of different political persuasions who seem to be above reproach, and highly intelligent. With Trump, I think you have to separate what he says from what he does. He has also been poorly advised on a number of occasion, and possibly deliberately. He has also made poor choices with people, eg; Gen Kelly, John Bolton, Cohen etc. In my opinion, he is probably not the person I would want to do business with. However, forgetting what he tweets (which is a tactic and strategy to bypass the mainstream media), and forgetting what he says, and has said in the past, some of the things he has done have been quite good. The economy was percolating nicely until Covid came along. He blatantly has made an appeal to the centre/right and bible belt vote, and I have no idea whether or not he is genuine. I think Melania is probably good for him. What he does have going for him, is that he is against the "deep state", and that is why the left and liberal media are so against him, as is the military/industrial complex. Now to address a couple of other things. Wally called Ardern evil. He has never met her. I have, and my son works with her. She is a lovely person, and while her politics were on the left, she has moderated, and it is because of her that we have one of the freest economies in the world. Yes, the competence pool around her is at low tide, but that isn't her fault. Nathan claims that President flew to the Antarctic on private military jets. Not too far away from where I live is an ATC controller who worked at McMurdo sound over the time Nathan makes his outrageous claims, which is repeating lies that others have dreamed up.Being an aviation person, I spent some time in the Tower here in our town, and we discussed many things aviation, and Antarctica. A relative also flew C130's in the Antarctica and was Sir Vivian Fookes personal pilot. Back then, twin jet's failed the ETOPS requirement which is why C117, C130, BAE146's only could fly there. And even now, a twin engine cannot fly over the South Pole. Right he's had enough air, time to deprive him of oxygen. —— a few things: 1. i don't have to meet hitler, stalin and mao to know they were evil(yes ardern is no hitler)... 2. i don't remember ANYONE saying that they have actually met trump. yet on this forum all manner of "stuff" and name calling or labeling is said about him(yes he is the lessor evil)... 3. just to clarify i did say ALL politicians were evil not just ardern... 4. this should really be on the jump board or the political board it has nothing to do with the truth....

The statement that all politicians are evil shows a lack of faith in people. I reckon there is a bit of projecting going on in that statement coupled with a fair dose of ignorance.

It's about as silly as saying all Americans are evil. Some of our politicians would make far more money outside of politics and it's a big committment of time, energy, and absense from family. I'm confident love of country plays a significant part in their motivation.

I have spoken to a number of people ‘ in the truth’ ( not my phrase) in this country and they speak highly, commend the character of our Prime minister Jacinda.

Kudos to Jacinda for clear communication and heeding expert advice but much of the credit goes to the team of 5 million. Jacinda was under a lot of pressure to make the decisions she made, including from the Opposition and some epidemiologists. It was great to see a science-led approach with empathy for the vulnerable, while some countries seemed to value individual freedoms over the safety of the population.

I respect Jacinda highly as a person, but won't be voting for her due to the economic incompetence of the government she leads. No doubt her responsibilities will be taking a high personal toll on her and her family.

The economic pandemic has hardly begun because we're on economic life support that is unsustainable. Lets see what happens when the wage subsidy ends in September.

Taxation and other revenue is the only wY to keep the books balanced. Creating good projects to keep people employed will hopefully do that. I read one article where someone, perhaps in the Auckland business community was complaining that downtown Ak was dead and it needed the cruise ships to come back. Did she avoid reading the news that cruise ships are full of the plague. It is that kind of selfish attitude that would mean we would be stuck with COVID 19 for a long time.

We paid the price as a country to stop covid-19 in its tracks. We now have to keep paying the price to keep it out. If everyone coming into the country had to pay $3,000 for their two week quarantine the system could be expanded to allow more people in. However the bottom line of a covid-tight border should be protected at all costs.

Just take it off if they are speaking at the update mtgs. The covid is striking lots of senior people in homes. A real worry for families with a Mum or Dad in such a home.

I think the Amazon tax is an interesting one. If I buy my widget from a shop here I pay GST. If I buy it through Amazon I avoided that unless it was over $400 from memory. Do you think Amazon should be given that advantage?

Expect them to go up again. Some one has to pay the bills. Auckland fuel taxes are necessary for Auckland roads. Other fuel taxes for other roads. There's a bit of carrot and stick in fuel taxes. They are being used to cause people to find more efficient means of travel that does not cost the environment as much.

The National party has a more environmentally-friendly transport policy, by building the first-world roads that the country needs. The Left wants to slow traffic down, have it inching it's way along overloaded roads and through towns and villages, idling for long periods at clogged intersections. Taxing petrol and diesel to fund tramways and buses (that only beneficiaries have enough time to use) should make motorists angry.
