wouldnt it be nice, if your church could be promoted as a people of love and care; people who showed the right spirit. People who endeared others to come into a loving, down to earth environment. Do you mean.... like the church Jesus envisaged? John 13:34 So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. 35 Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples. John 15:12 This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. 13 There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command. 15 I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me. 16 You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name. 17 This is my command: Love each other.

...wouldnt it be nice, if your church could be promoted as a people of love and care; people who showed the right spirit. People who endeared others to come into a loving, down to earth environment. There's a quote that says, Always preach the gospel. Use words if necessary. My opinion of shunning is that the church is afraid others will be led astray if they keep company with unbelievers. They might learn there are other opinions and teachings out there. The church is scared they will lose control. A church that doesn't trust it's followers to allow their god to speak to and lead hearts is nothing less than a cult.

Discipline in the church is one thing but when the ones doing the discipline are in need of discipline themselves it often doesn’t turn out that well.

Tares are poisonous when it eaten.... That is why, the angels of God to gather up the tares in bundles to burn up and gather the wheat into God's barn/kingdom. Wheat is grossly over rated and is the source of some of the ills that people have today. It contributes to obesity. This is true and eating tares would have no nutritional value although they may be a good source of fibre. Nice little study on the tares and the wheat btw. Edifying!😄

They're just empty vessels. Yes, certain types of tares are very poisonous, according one of parables that I read. Matthew, the weeds are identified with "the children of the evil one", the wheat with "the children of the Kingdom", and the harvest with "the end of the age".
The evil children/seed can spread like wild fire and it destroy everything in its path, with their poisonous ideas, belief, opinion to others like there is no God, He is dead, Christ is NOT a real person, he is a myth character, he never alive on earth. The Bible is a Science fiction book full of myths and Jesus is NOT coming back, like many on here mention all the time.

Our old neighbours used to shun their dog. Apparently it was a new technique they had learned. When the dog was misbehaving they would turn their back on it and ignore it. The dog didn’t seem to mind the shunning at all and it didn’t do anything to correct it’s behaviour.

Jesus cares about the TARES because he told the servants NOT to pull up the tares because he wants to give them opportunity and chances to change their behaviors and belief there is NO God, He is dead or they don't NEED to have Jesus as their Redeemer/Savior until the harvest time/death and Jesus returns.

So run, that ye may obtain. [25] And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. [26] I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: [27] But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. I think that kinda has something to do with shunning.

SOME shunning is necessary and a must like certain Cancer in the body... if we don't cut if off, the cancer will spread throughout the whole body. To save life the cancer has to be removed from the body....
Like a believer/man who had sexual relationship with his step mother and didn't think any wrong about it. Paul admonished and ask the believers in the church NOT to have anything to do with him UNTIL he has REPENT of behavior/sin. The man eventually REPENTED of his sins and Paul asked the believers in the church to accept and WELCOME him with open arms in the fellowship again.

I find the best way to correct bad behaviour in my husband is to shun him. He hates that. Don’t have to say a word. Go for a loooong walk and don’t hurry back. Effective.

** Me too! but thanks God both of us forgive and forget ASAP, we don't want the silent treatment to last too long not good for the marriage. Sometimes Nathan you make a little bit of sense. Continual shunning would destroy a marriage, you accept that. So why not come to the same conclusion that shunning within a Family will destroy the relationship between members. I saw this happen in my Mother's Family because 3 professed and 3 didn't. A very close Family torn apart, because of the way the 2x2's treated the others. The ones that never professed would have liked to have tarred and feathered the Workers who caused the problem. Can't say I blame them. That is why I will always loath shunning and call it out for what it is WRONG. You will find that in the case of Husband and Wife the matter is trivial and making up is the fun part. Same with religion, man made belief systems are not important in the whole scheme of life. Nothing should cause separation within a Family, unity within it is essential. Sure there will be the odd Family tiff, but the fabric of the Family should never be torn apart. It is worth noting that in the Husband, Wife situation Women have the power because they withdraw favours. It is called the power of the fur purse.

Paul's advices and discipline him from the fellowship with the believers WOKE him up and realized his Salvation was in gear danger so he REPENTED and changed his ungodly behavior. Just like in a marriage we must repent and to forgive each others. Have some time out and apart for a brief period. There will be clashes, disagreement and hard feelings... We need to forgive each others. The overseers, workers, church elders and the friends all make mistakes and sometimes they say and do things to us knowingly and unintentionally. Many of us had things done to us by the workers or the friends that is NOT in the Spirit of Christ so, we must learn to forgive them then our heavenly will forgive our sins.

one verse does not cancel another it calls us to balance with discipline and yet mercy....i'm living proof that shunning works it did take me about 8 years to come back but come back i did hat in hand and ready to do right... Wouldn't it be nice, if your church could be promoted as a people of love and care; people who showed the right spirit. People who endeared others to come into a loving, down to earth environment. Promoted by whom? It is all very well to call for people to be perfect when what surrounds them is evil continually. There is more love and care and right spirit shown than you can see or will ever see. We are told to love God first our neighbour next and ourselves last. We will never suit everybody because our faith is not of this world and is therefore abhorrent to many and is not reconcilable to the people of this world and it is not an earthly environment we want but an heavenly. We are not perfect neither will we be this side of the grave, so I don't understand why it is demanded of us
