I was raised in a 2x2 that was ran on fear.
I am told they now run on love.
When you promote fear you may have followers who will do as you ask but they will never develop a love for what you are preaching.
What I see now in their interpretation of love is allowing the younger generation to do what they want at the expense of alienation of the older 2x2 and ex 2x2 who were raised by fear and oppressive rules.
Here is an example of what I mean. I begged my mother to allow me to go to a play at school. She allowed me to go and then later yelled at me for wanting to go. I believe she did not have a problem with me going to the play I believe she had a fear of what the workers and friends who say if they found out. This happened so many times when I was growing up that I made a vow to myself if I ever gave my children permission to do something and I had second thought that was on me and I would never hold them responsible.
Fear is what prompts them to put the best brimstone and fire preacher on the platform on Saturday night at convention.
Fear is what has allowed them to control generations of families to the point that they will turn on their own flesh and blood.
True love is HOPE!
Jesus preached hope. He left people with hope not fear. He died to leave hope for you and me.
Fear is not a lasting emotion. Fear either gives way to rebellion or rejection when what is predicted does not come about in a relative short period of time.
Hope on the other hand is what breathes life into our lives and lives of those around us.
Not all workers promote fear. Some show a true servants spirit of love, compassion and give hope to their flock.

Could you also give a example of letting the younger generation do what they want at the expense of others?

There was a time on the east coast of USA that: There was no divorce and remarry - if you did you were not allowed to have meeting or take part in meeting. Brides had to wear dresses that they could wear to meeting with NO atterations. Also no big weddings No bridal or baby showers. No cut/short hair, makeup or pants for girls/women. Certain occupations were frowned on. Woman working outside the home or in certain professions were looked down upon. Especially if you had young children. No drinking of alcohol.
Do I think these rules were right? NO I do not. The workers would preach you were to be lead by the spirit to gain spiritual understanding and then they would turn around and allude to a list of rules that if you did not adhere to you would be subject to gossip and ridicule. If you ask for the rules in writing they would deny there was a list of rules and go back to bring lead by the spirit.

Forgotten
My upbringing was the same as yours. The interesting thing is I dont remember the workers talking about the HS. They talked about 'the spirit.' But not the holy spirit. Look at a persons life and look for the fruit of the spirit, and the fruit of repentance in their life. That is how we recognise a son and daughter of the most high God. Control in any form is not the spirit of Jesus.

You are right. It was the spirit not the Holy spirit as it should have been. There are many spirits as we know from the bible. These workers have preached about the many spirits and the need to try the spirits many times themselves.
The Holy spirit would have helped them to show love, compassion and understanding towards the shortcomings of others. It would have helped them to be honest with themselves and with the friends about their own shortcomings. Think of what a powerful testimony it would have be for everyone if a worker would get up on the platform at convention or special meeting and speak about their own struggle not be allowed to be married and have children. The longing for a mate. The longing to have their own children and their own homes. Why do they pretend they have superpowers and do not to have the same desires of other men and woman. If they were honest about their own struggles they could be empathetic with others and others could be empathetic with them also. Also be honest about the times they crossed the line and had an affair with a brother/sister worker, wife/husband or a man/woman in the "Truth".
When we think of David we think of a man of God, not a man who commited many disgraceful actions before God. Why, because he was honest before God and others. It's recorded in the bible for us to learn lessons about failure and redemption.
The whole point of the Gospel is to save the souls of men, not to determine whose soul are worthy of saving.
The Holy spirit helps all of us to be honest about the good, bad and the ugly in ourselves and others. To be forgiven and to forgive. It gives us hope for ourselves and hope for others.

Fear is a useful emotion that can keep you out of harms way, while hope just reminds you of your goal, but doesn't get anything done on it's own. It's what you do, or what you fail to do, that positively effects your life.

Don't you folks ever sing that hymn Holy Spirit breath upon us in your Sunday morning meetings? or Pray for the Holy Spirit's presence to be in your fellowship meetings. The workers preach the fruit of the Spirit= Love, joy, longsuffering, patience, compassionate and so on...

The Spirit is shorten for Holy Spirit. Not all spirits are holy. It Spirit means Holy Spirit; there is ONLY ONE Holy Spirit/Spirit. There are many spirits out there and many of them are NOT holy.

The Spirit is shorten for Holy Spirit. Not all spirits are holy. True but the one we have to deal with is the Holy Spirit.

You are a Christian you should KNOW this by now. The little ghosts/demons of Annan are jokers NOTHING to compare to Holy Spirit/Ghost.

I think you can have fear and hope, its kinda tough to have one without the other. We fear hell/death and hope for heaven/life. "O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?" (1 Corinthians 15:55). With Christ there is no fear, only hope. That's the beauty of Christianity.
And I agree, there are lots of spirits, but only one is Holy.

Here is something on the Holy Spirit for you.. Also don't always believe what you write. I love to see the work of God's Holy Spirit in the lives of others & grateful for what I see & hear here. I'm thankful for those who have helped me with the language. From a worker. I have many more if you wish.

I'm not talking about recent years. To put it another way, I'm talking about the workers continuing to use King James English such as the word Ghost instead of Spirit for years after mainstream churches had started using it.
The workers hung on to KJ English and Bible for years before other versions were allowed, so to speak.

KJV Luk_11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? Joh_1:33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. they are both there not sure why that is hard to understand....

I'm wondering what you're finding so hard to understand. I said the workers used the word Ghost long after people had started using the word spirit. What don't you understand. You will not find the words Holy Ghost in the NIV for example. The workers kept using KJ English for a long time

What don't you understand. you keep saying King James or King James English is what they go by. i have said twice now that BOTH Ghost and Spirit are used in the KJV which implies either way is correct. and to note i have rarely heard Ghost used and have really only heard Spirit used since 1979....Ghost is used 89 times Spirit 22 times in the KJV with Holy Spirit being used first in the OT and Holy Ghost being used only in the NT...

Seems like you should have been telling the workers that, not me. As I said they used the word Ghost not Spirit. Never heard it called the Holy Spirit until I left meetings.
As I said which you are not getting, the Holy Ghost is not used in the NIV and many versions except the king James.

Makes no sense to me. We live today, this is our time and what we use is what we use and whether we use Holy Spirit Holy Ghost what does it matter? God knows our thoughts and the intents of the heart.
