A tourist visiting the area drives through town, stops at the motel, and lays a $100 bill on the desk saying he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs to pick one for the night.
As soon as he walks upstairs, the motel owner grabs the bill and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher.
The butcher takes the $100 and runs down the street to retire his debt to the farmer.
The farmer takes the $100 and heads off to pay his bill to his supplier, the Co-op.
The guy at the Co-op takes the $100 and runs to pay his debt to the local prostitute, who has also been facing hard times and has had to offer her "services" on credit.
The hooker rushes to the hotel and pays off her room bill with the hotel owner.
The hotel proprietor then places the $100 back on the counter so the traveler will not suspect anything.
At that moment the traveler comes down the stairs, states that the rooms are not satisfactory, picks up the $100 bill and leaves.
No one produced anything. No one earned anything.......
However, the whole town is now out of debt and now looks to the future with a lot more optimism. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how a Stimulus package works

At first the kids thought I was playing a trick on them, and then they had this "Oh yeah!" look on their faces. Once, though, a female student took the dollar bill and stuffed it down her neck, and the economy NEVER recovered.

It is more equatable than just allowing a privileged few to share the wealth. This will become more obvious with the current situation, that we have to support one another for humanity to survive. A tough way to have to learn, but probably the lesson was long overdue.

Works well in Australia. We have always had the attitude It is all about help offering, simplified as Mates helping Mates! Comes from our Colonial past, and has stood the test of time. By far the best way for people to live. And of course it was the way of life that Christ promoted.

Christ advocated voluntary charity but really never any economic system especially one that robs one person and gives to another....

◄ Matthew 19:21 ► New International Version.
Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."
Seems a fairly straight forward directive Wally.

As far as the government is concerned this is NOT a charity move at all. An economy does not exist when people are not spending money -- the money comes first. When the circulation stops they have the option of (1) taking money from the rich so the poor can spend it, or (2) giving money to people to make the system move again. Consumption (people buying things) accounts for 70% of the US economy, so why give money to the rich, who don't need to buy things like everyone else does. Who cares how much money welfare people get, they give it ALL to better off people anyway. Some of it undoubtedly goes to provide you with a salary.

I honestly wonder if Wally can understand that concept & that his job depends on it?
If there weren't people who needed counseling and depended on someone paying taxes to help them get that counseling, -then wally would not have the job that he has and he might be out on the street looking through garbage cans for food and a warm air vent on the street to sleep on at night. (esp. in winter where he lives)

Wally just doesn't get it, the need to be humanitarian the same as Christ taught. If humanity is to survive there is a need for the more abled to support those less fortunate. It is about the needy, not the greedy.

It is about the needy, not the greedy. Christ taught voluntary charity, he did not teach forced charity that comes at the barrel end of a firearm which is what happens when you refuse to pay taxes nowadays... your trying to create a false dilemma humanity will hum along just fine like it has for 1000's of years...maybe your not "getting it" whats greedy is this never ending hunger for other peoples money and resources that never seems to be enough... and why are you invoking Christ when you don't even believe in the bible? you call it myth or fables and 2000 years out of date...

Nobody is holding a gun to collect taxes in Australia. We understand the need for Governments to provide services. We have one of the best Health Systems in the World made possible by taxes. The cost of the little episode I had was $500,000. Did not cost me a cent, and the treatment and care were second to none.
I am free to quote Christ, he was a good man, an excellent example of proper principles for living. But I find it tragic that his life was so misreported by what was written more than 300 years after his death. Guess that is just an inherent problem with journalism, fact gets turned into fiction to create a different story. There is usually an underlying purpose for it.

The biggest gift a government could give to the poor would be to stop asset inflation (like shares and real estate).
e.g. there wouldn't be a need to feed kids in schools if housing costs were more affordable.
Stop quantitative easing and messing with the money supply, and get rid of unnecessary regulation around housing.
