We loved Viola - always kind, and a great sense of humor! One of the landmarks of my childhood and teen years, and throughout my years in the work as well. She was wonderful to have on the prep crew!
When she visited the islands for conventions in 1984 (I was with Harry Henninger on Guam that year), we got to teasing her about her "crawlers n callers" on Pohnpei: She and Kathy McLin stayed in a room of a family home, using mats (and probably a futon) on the floor. The "crawler" was a large centipede that of course worried her, but the "caller" was a young man who didn't realize that his "intended's" room was being occupied by two missionaries that night! Viola grew frightened as she heard "ssss... Chris... Chris..." whispered through the screened window. Kathy awoke and firmly informed him that they were two missionaries staying there. "Oh I'm sorry lady!"
