Ah - the 'Temples made with hands' verse! A sanctified meeting home then must be made with feet! Or perhaps by just one 'hand', to omit the plural use?

you might as well get use to it...its gonna happen....i noticed other churches use the term false church or cult a lot so we in turn use worldly church... That is not the reason you use the term “worldly” church. The 2x2 church uses the term “worldly” church as a slur on other Christian churches to help reinforce its belief that all other churches are false churches. It is one of a number of tactics used to provide a rationale for this belief, another being to present other Christian churches as “non scriptural” on the basis of a few verses in Mathew 10 or the old “God does not dwell in Temples made with hands”. Of course by presenting other churches as “worldly” the 2x2 church subtly presents itself as “unworldly” and then uses this as a basis for claiming that the 2x2 church is the one “true church” and the workers God’s “true servants” despite its workers having instant access to all the world can offer through iPads and laptops and smart phones just like everybody else. Damming other Christian churches as “worldly” and claiming that their clergy are destined for hell has been a fundamental part of 2x2 doctrine from the very beginning. It even predates Sunday morning meetings. To suggest that the 2x2 church only does this as a consequence of other churches doing it is, I suspect, an attempt to present the church in a more positive light than would otherwise be the case if the true facts were known. The true facts are that 2x2 church doctrine is that your Christian neighbour is going to hell unless he comes out of his Christian church and professes through the workers and accepts the 2x2 church as the one true church and the workers as God’s only true servants. Matt10 It's amazing how everyone I talk to is under that same impression, while at the same time, people who are professing can tell me that 'nobody really believes that', or 'there are lots of beliefs, just focus on Jesus', or 'that's just opinions'.
Amazing indeed.

Matt10 Just wondering how does it predate Sunday morning meetings? Sunday morning meetings weren’t introduced until the movement was already well established and attracting converts wooed by the doctrine of damnation. Here is an extract from an article in the Impartial Reporter published on January 22 1903. Remember conventions predate Sunday morning meetings which were only introduced from 1903 onwards (at the earliest). Matt10 “There is a hot simmering time ahead for Enniskillen folk in hell, anyway! This Mr. Irwin, who uses our streets, and blocks our thoroughfares with meetings, and pays no rates for their upkeep, leaving that to ‘the ungodly’, says Enniskillen is (with only a few exceptions) going to hell headlong. He says that the Enniskillen merchant, going to Church on Sunday morning with his Bible under his arm, is going to hell.” (From TTT)

I get really disgusted when one of our members talks about how we are different from the world because we don't drink or smoke and we are the only way that has ministers that go out the way they do and we go to meetings. These same people are MORE like the world than the "world" in so many ways but they just don't get it.

There was a concentrated effort by the 2x2 church to downplay this aspect of its doctrine ever since it abandoned street preaching and went underground. This downplaying included a change of language whereby the hell fire and damnation preaching of the early years was replaced with a more subtle message more reflective of the new meeker, milder image that the church wanted to portray as a result of its withdrawal from public spaces. This new more subtle message was not always obvious to the outsider but was unmistakable to those on the inside, something that many here will be able to confirm. Indeed the message was so subtle that it could always be conveniently denied if such a denial was deemed to be beneficial. We can see such denials continuing today in various forms. Unlike the old days when they told you straight out that your clergyman was leading you to hell in a hand cart, the message would now be delivered to the unsuspecting stranger through a mix of carefully selected scriptural references and a sackful of innuendo. Of course this made perfect sense as by this time new members had become extremely difficult to recruit and the church didn’t want to scare off potential converts immediately after the first encounter by telling them that their entire family was bound for Satan’s fiery pit. This was all part of a long game where the objective was to keep the interested stranger coming back and slowly gaining an understanding of the doctrine over a period of time in the hope that by the time the doctrine had actually dawned on them they’d already be conditioned into believing it. I knew of one guy who took ten years to “make his choice” because he struggled to come to terms with the idea that his Christian parents were now in hell. These denials are all part of a deliberate attempt to portray the 2x2 church as more mainstream and less controversial (and hence more attractive/less nutty) to the world outside but irrespective of these denials the message remains the same. That nice Christian church going, Jesus loving family from across the street who spend all their days helping the homeless and the downtrodden and their nights praying and communicating with the Lord will be going straight to hell unless they profess through a 2x2 worker. Matt10

Matt10 I always found it hard to believe that people actually believed that till I attended a funeral with my family and actually heard my father talking to the son of the deceased who was heartbroken that his father was now in hell. That deeply saddens me.

I have Chuck Swindoll's sermon all memorized. Go figure, Bob has to show everyone up by memorizing Chuck Swindoll's sermon. Bet you were one of those little kids that had the children's studies in gospel meetings memorized too with all the right answers. Show-off! 😄 Never had the chance to answer questions in gospel meetings. But with Swindoll, is mostly hallelujah, glory be, praise the lord, blabbadoodlelateedah, praise be. There's a 25-minute clip on U-tube that I occasionally listen to for the lullaby effect.

Do people get given a bucket of sand to put their heads in when they "profess"?
