The young people singing at convention never did anything for me so neither does that recording, although thanks to Gill for his thoughtfulness. Probably never did anything for me because I was raised in an isolated area away from other friends so didn't feel a part of the groups that would be participating. When we feel uncomfortable enough it can form negative feelings from the experience.

That woujd have been rough , to be in the work , and not feel anything positive , but instead negative , with young people singing hymns . Not a nice experience, at all . I presume practically EVERYONE would have positive feelings about this nervous young girl singing , in spite of her “ handicap “ ? Alvin m.youtube.com/watch?v=nKfpBgtHw2g

I enjoyed the group singing as much as anything else from convention as a child.

When we feel uncomfortable enough it can form negative feelings from the experience. The Holy Spirit should negate any of those feelings and there should be joy regardless of circumstance or of where or how one was or was not raised. I read of many places in the world where there are one's and two's by themselves enjoying life through the Spirit and the sense of fellowship even though alone in isolation so to speak.

The young people at convention where I went relentlessly ridiculed one of their peers that had some mental difficulties. I watched in disgust and felt so sorry for that individual. And then they would gather together to sing hymns like on that recording. Not to mention other situations. That quenches the Holy Spirit regardless of how many hymns we sing. Jesus understands.

And what did you do about it? Exactly, Speak. Nothing. I walked away and had nothing to do with it. But I also didn't sit and sing with them. It just didn't feel right. These were the most popular, children of elders, strongest of our young people. Every year for many years. That family doesn't come to meetings now. Someone told me once that what we get away with here isn't good for us from an eternal standpoint. Perhaps some repent but more likely than not people just keep going about with their lives and think nothing of it.

Things must have changed. In the early 1990's, Jack Price sent letters around to all the elders in our area to be read after the Sunday morning meeting. It very sternly instructed that we were not to record in any form, the singing of hymns from the famous R.L. Allen publication. It was all about copyright laws, but we all know the real reason was in case the recordings "got into the wrong hands".

Yes I remember hearing workers warn the friends against making copies of certain hymns not in the book. Now they make copies of hymns and pass them out at funerals.
