Used to ride a BSA Bantam. Flat out at 30mph in a head wind. They took my license off me 12 months ago, not allowed to ride anymore. graduated to a Mobility Scooter.
Given up night riding as well.

My Dad always loved motor bikes as they were referred to in those days. Back in the 1920's every young guy had one. More popular than cars, and better than a horse and jinker. He started with a solo bike, but when he started courting my Mother, he decided to upgrade. In 1921 he bought a brand new 'Indian Scout" with sidecar, so his new found girl friend could travel in comfort. Great plan, except on the way home for the first time he went off the road straight through a barbed wire fence, nearly killed himself. Because he had only ridden solo, he was not used to a sidecar, and failed to negotiate a bend in the road. The barbed wire slashed his throat, put a hole in his windpipe, luckily did not get the juggler, that would have been curtains. The hole in the windpipe never healed, he used to be able to put his little finger in it, that used to unnerve us kids.
Have a Cousin who is an expert when it comes to vintage bikes. Any questions regarding bikes, he is the man to talk to.

Love the bike Ant, sort of bit of an improvement on a Bantam. Don't think I could handle it, doubt if i could even ride a Bantam. Maybe 60 years ago.

The school combined both primary and high school years had an agricultural class. They had a 4 wheeler that students would ride, and I remember watching through the window of my class, this student on the 4 wheeler hit an exposed tree root. The end result wasn’t pretty 😎

I don’t race, however it’s been a goal of mine to get the R6 onto the track where it belongs during recreational track days. That’s an expensive hobby though! Until then, the mountain roads around Brisbane has everything a rider could ask for. Mt. Glorious is my race track lol.

Wonder if Workers ever rode motorbikes. Know they rode pushbikes, don't recall any with motorbikes. I know when my older Brother had one in the 1950's there were a few tut, tut's. Motorbike riders were regarded as "Hoons", a bit "Worldly".

No they had their own pushbikes. Last thing they bought, before they went into the work. What was left after that was donated to the Overseer.
Think the insruction from the Overseer on acceptance was " Bring your own pushbike".
Don't think turning up on a "Triumph Thunderbird" would have been accepted.

I only had one go at riding a motorbike when younger and couldn’t balance the thing so stuck to horse-riding.

There will be no “absolute” truths and crazy stuff forced on anyone in here, just bike talk 😎😉 Horse riding would be fun. What I like about a bike though is it’s myself that’s ultimately in control. The bike does what I say and not the other way around. Well most times lol.

I liked the throb of a motor between my legs. Don't get that with a horse, maybe a fart sometimes.

I used to enjoy bike riding until a young child whacked a door into my knee. There’s many good bike tracks in New Zealand now & bike riding has taken off here. And we have the motor-bike groups that come from nowhere & suddenly zoom past you! Bear with me. I know this may sound a dumb blonde question but how come the bike doesn’t go right over when you corner it sloping over?

To be honest, I don’t get the throb of the motor with my bike as you would with a twin, but I do the thrill of an inline 4 that revs out to 18,500rpm. The acceleration at high rpms is incredible and deserves much respect 😂😎

It’s a healthy passion for the mind, but can be a very unhealthy passion to the body. It’s a risk that every motorcycle rider is will to take though. NZ would be a very interesting place to ride, so many mountains and awesome scenery. You mean how come the bike doesn’t go right over as in fall to the ground while leaning?
