ur Panamanian worker G’day, perhaps some have heard of the death of our Panamanian sister worker, Francisca Concepcion in Panamá. The first we heard was that she fell, hit her head on a rock, and was unconscious. Workers have been going into Palmarazo for a bit more than 33 years, where there is a small group of 6-7 friends. All of us have fallen on the way in, but usually in the muddy slippery places. Part of the trip these days is going upriver in a cayuco (canoe). Sometimes the river is low, so we get out and walk, while our friends pull and push the canoe into deeper water. It is in these rocky places we thought Franci had fallen. Then we heard it had happened IN Palmarazo, which was puzzling to me, as all is level and for the most part is pasture. Brenda Lang, who was with Franci gave us the following details... There is a trail in the jungle they were on, visiting the home of one of our friends upriver. There is a narrow spot on that trail, very close to an embankment along the river. It was here, on the return, she fell, about 3 meters, landing on the river beach, and hit her head on a rock. From then on, she was unconscious. There are now a few spots where cell phones can work, so they called 911 for a helicopter to come in, which they do in the jungle area, but it never arrived. So, the friends took her downriver some 2 hours in the canoe, and when they got to Turbe, where there is a road, the ambulance was waiting. From there, perhaps another 2 hours to the hospital in Penonome. After the x-rays and exams, the doctor informed that there was extensive damage in her head, but what brought this all on was an aneurysm, which was probably the cause of her falling. After a while, 3 ladies were allowed to go to her side, but some 5 mins after they left the doctor came out and informed that she had died. None of the family is professing, but have listened and they are awaiting their decision as to when and where the funeral is to be, perhaps Wednesday. So, for the Mex-C. America list there has been two workers die in one week; Israel Aceves, 44 in Mexico, Monday...and now Franci, 72, in Panamá; Saturday. And if we extend the field to the 3 Caribbean islands for the Spanish work; in 5 months 3 workers have reached the goal, with the death of Juan Pablo, 33 in September, here in the DR.

Goodness, I thought more scandal Maybe it is ‘Concepcion’ not ‘conception’. Predictive text does take over sometimes!
