Thanks, jigpeter, for posting this.
We need to be aware of what happens when we turn any of our public services over to private companies.
Private companies have to make money for their stockholders.
Can't anyone understand that when that is true in the case with prisons it is in the interest of the companies to keep those prisons filled?
We also know some of how companies are able to manipulate laws in their favor.
So in the end we fill our prisons with people some of whom shouldn't even be there, -have to pay our tax money to our government to pay companies to make money.
So is it any surprise that the US has the largest number of people in prison compared to any other country in the world, -more than China? news.bbc.co.uk/2/shared/spl/hi/uk/06/prisons/html/nn2page1.stmUS 2,193,798 737 (per 100,000 per population) China 1,548,498 118 (per 100,000 per population)
T here a saying that if you want to find out something, -"follow the money." This a good example.

Holding another opinion (what’s new about that?) perhaps if the public schools taught free enterprise and its qualities, the youth wouldn’t be so disenchanted as they mature. Pure capitalism assisted me in paying for over a million dollars in medical expenses along with help from Harald and Gulli Olsson and some of you here. Just wanted to offer my thanks once again.

Well, sir, while it (capitalism) may now be taught in public schools, it certainly was not while I was in attendance. Possibly the concept was taught, just not the practice. If one knew what to look for, (I certainly did not) perhaps it was somewhere that I was totally unaware, so had to learn on my own through much trial and error. Every emphasis in my public education was to get the best employment and pay possible. Only when poor physical condition made it impossible to find, was I forced to rely upon either social help or upon natural talent, forced to live without “employment” year after year.

So you do realize that social help and natural talent are outside the capitalist umbrella. It sounds to me like you could have appreciated a little more social help when your natural talents failed you. Who is paying your hospital bill?

I did, who else? Went into debt, repaid it. Only indebted now to those who granted me charity.

Detention centers for detained migrants and separated children at the border are for profit businesses. link
