I know the workers need something to fill up a speaking slot in a large meeting. It is 15 minutes into the sermon, and they have already explained what they meant to explain. I get that.
But does everything in the bible have a spiritual meaning? A person can spiritualize any experience in life for that matter.
Example-I had a wreck. My eyes were on the things around me. If I don't read, pray, get to every meeting and do more dying, my spiritual car might crash....Ever heard some event or bible verse given an additional meaning to it? There is nothing wrong with this unless it is used to force things on other people. When needless legalism is applied from symbolism, then it is a problem.
I remember hearing about how Abraham was sitting in his tent door (Genesis 18) guarding what entered into his home. Tents didn't have air conditioning so maybe it was hot inside the tent. When this scriture is used to scold someone for owing a TV, it has been carried out of hand IMHO. A person can be too symbolic, can't they?

I once heard a trash can being spiritualized. God, the janitor, came to clean up and found no trash, and was disappointed.
I snickered to myself.

We were always told we had to be childlike, and the best way to teach children is with fairytales. Did not suit those of us who wanted to grow up.

Nothing bugged me more about testimonies and preaching than over spiritualization. Christianity has a defined end of triumph over sin.
Certainly eye has not conceived all that God has prepared for those who love him yet, but we can be fairly sure of what's right and wrong in this life, and reserve our interpretations and expressions of the word of god by that standard.
There's not a lot of place in 2x2ism for "I'm not sure, or I don't know".
When people don't have anything to say they fall back to saying something venerating of the workers or the way.
If you dont have something to say in meeting it doesn't automatically mean something's wrong with you. Being quiet reflecting observing and resting are all perfectly acceptable modes..

I don't think everything in the Bible was necessarily originally intended to be a spiritual message, but I do think we can find spiritual messages in everything - in any part of the Bible and in any part of our everyday life. For example when God told Jeremiah to go to the potter's house and then God told him a metaphorical message about clay... Metaphorical messages can be powerful. I think God has always delighted in sharing his mysteries in ways that we at least have a chance of understanding. Perhaps anything that God wants to tell us has to be "translated" from his spiritual way into a human language or human idea for us.

Religions aren't alone in trying to spiritualize everything. New age groups do the same thing, just a bit differently. It must be an ingrained genetic trait for humanity trying to find double meanings in everything. Symbolizing everything instead of just accepting things at face value. Ah well, each to their own.

In relation to the OP...
I was driving the other day and a little light came on in the car. It said I was low on oil. So next stop, I checked the dipstick and sure enough, it was low on oil.
I just thought, how wonderful it was that the little metal rod was a true reflection and representation of the light, and since it was, it kept the car going toward the true destination. It was in its place when I needed it.
Sometimes I feel like that small little part, but I just want to be a faithful little dipstick in coming days.

I appreciated what we heard about oil and dipsticks as well. I was reading in Matthew 25 about the five foolish virgins who ran out of oil in their lamps before the wedding with the bridegroom. It occurs to me that they could have used a dipstick to check those lamps for oil as well. I just want to be more faithful in dipping my dipstick more often, and keeping it well oiled so that I could endure until the end and finish true.

Symbolism can be found everywhere and in anything! Good job ips! I hope to have your sense of understanding more and more in the coming days!

Mr. Brown testifies that he is feeling so bad about his failures over the past week that he felt like going and hiding behind the door over there.
Mrs. Smith started with, "I feel so small that I feel like joining Mr. Brown behind the door."
Sorry, that's a rerun. But the names are real.

I was just thinking about a thought we heard on TMB a couple of years ago. It was mentioned that sometimes we just need a little adjustment. I just really liked that thought. Maybe my heart is more pure than most every worlding around me, but I just need a little adjustment to make it perfect. Even if I'm wiser and know the bible better than most worldly people in false-religions, there is still room for improvement with a little adjustment. And even if I'm more humble than all those other prideful earthlings, I can be even more magnificently humble with a little adjustment. I want to do better and better in coming days.
