What I find interesting is that here is a Mr. Gelernter, - professor at Yale and scientist at Dittach LLC, -who himself comes from the privileged class of "intellectuals," -yet he seems to think that he can tell US all about what he calls "the coarseness of the unconstrained average American that Mr. Trump conveys"!
He talks of the typical American as, "the farmer, factory hand, auto mechanic, machinist, teamster, shop owner, clerk, software engineer, infantryman, truck driver, housewife."
My father was a farmer, my husband was a factory hand, my mother was a housewife!
NONE of them were " coarse" and "unconstrained " and NOT one of them would have acted like Trump! And they would have seen right trough Trump and would NEVER have voted for him to start with!
So Mr. Gelernter, -professor from Yale, -can just keep his "put down" view of the "average Americans" to himself!
I live among those "average Americans;" -they are my friends, my family, my neighbors and they are 100% smarter and far better people than Gelernter, -professor from Yale, -gives them credit for!

So the author was privileged. Can he not comment on the privileged?
Most people don't operate on the pious pretentiousness of leftists.
Politically, leftists are an endangered species.
Being politically relevant has something to do with being conscious of the ubiquitous presence of sin.
.......
Ideals are shelved on the alter of survival.
But then, isn't survival an ideal?
Politics can be so much fun in this world.
Actually to me, its all boring.

Do you honestly believe that all we " leftists" are just being "pretentious & pious," Lee?
Do you believe that any of us "leftists" or "rightists" will survive or even deserve to survive, - if we "shelve our ideals" of morality & decency towards others?
Would we even want to live in that kind of world ourselves? If politics is just boring to you, Lee; -why do you comment?

People do shelve their concept of civil decency in war. Our recent election was largely decided over a question of whether policy should be decided nationally or by globalists.
It's a fair question. Are you safer with your nation, or with the globalists?
Typically, they're more rich than they're idealistic or practical. Can we trust them?
