i see how not giving bail to violent offenders and repeat offenders is a good idea but not sure about doing that to non-violent offenders...well have to see...the bill seems to suggest that but that "risk assessment" sounds a little loose on law and heavy on feelings then we also have to consider illegal aliens too do we want them prowling our streets having been let go without bail...and then to make matters worse jerry brown and crew likes it that can't be good...things may not be as they appear to be...

I agree with you. Except, being an "illegal" is not a violent offense.

No bail law passes. I'm in favor Unfortunately that's not a "no bail " bill at all. It's a "no bail for profit" bill. The greatest opponents of the bill are bail bondsmen because they prey on the poor. Here's what it's about. A person whose risk to public safety and risk of failure to appear is determined to be “low” would be released with the least restrictive nonmonetary conditions possible. “Medium-risk” individuals could be released or held depending on local standards. “High-risk” individuals would remain in custody until their arraignment, as would anyone who has committed certain sex crimes or violent felonies, is arrested for driving under the influence for the third time in less than 10 years, is already under supervision by the courts or has violated any conditions of pretrial release in the previous five years.
That's not different from how it is at present.

I understand. I've felt first hand the unfairness of the bail law.

I understand. I've felt first hand the unfairness of the bail law. See what you miss when you don't read well. You had a knee jerk reaction because you saw the word "Democratic".

I've personally experienced a situation where I ought to have posted bail for someone but couldn't. It was so rumpy pumpyed up. Yeah life's not fair. Look at all the lawyering our politicians do. Hell, most were lawyers themselves. Few of them could relate to a quiet bible study.
