Its consensus today that humans should live in a way that preserves their existence as well as others to perpetuity. IMO what has become common was once rare. Humans needed their foibles to be codified and condemned by one standard and one authority. The moment has come and gone to arrest this agenda. You cannot undo three millennium of God's influence upon the world visa vie the Judeo-Christian vehicle.
When God hits your family he hits you where it hurts. A paternalistic, controlling God is preferable to the calloused, individualistic-indifference of atheists. When God forcibly establishes the nation-state of Israel he didn't do anything the nations don't do to preserve themselves today.

You cannot undo three millennium of God's influence upon the world visa vie the Judeo-Christian vehicle. I understand this is what the Egyptians, Greeks, and those Norse pagans. No one is trying to undo all of the traditions that have been put into place. After all, people all over the world still celebrate Saturnalia even if they do so under a different name. I am saying that it is not a bad idea for people to think for themselves and take responsibility for their actions instead of passing the responsibility for setting the standards for moral behavior to some paranormal being. Have you determined why the more religious states have higher murder rates? It seems that one authority has either set a poor standard or is not providing people with a good moral compass. If only you could support this premise. Are you saying that god used the nations of today and their actions to justify the slaughter of people in the OT? One would think a god would be above that sort of behavior.

The search for God does not usually mean a quest to apprehend a paranormal being but a search for harmony, meaning, and direction with regard to existence. It is unavoidable this search would involve an idealized man after the Christian tradition. By what better standard could our species chart its course?

I'm saying we shouldn't measure God and ourselves by a double standard. When we forcibly alter the world domestically and internationally, we are imitating the Biblical record of God.
