Hi Nathan, not sure, but are you suggesting the f&w should apologize to victims of abuse and dishonesty, to their members, and community at large, like the Catholic Church has done? That takes humility, courage and strong leadership, and has very positive results. Alvin

I don't remember reading WhatHat going on a discovery voyage. When did he go discovering the group? I think he just read what was written on the websites from what others had written and tried to make his own conclusions the same as any of us can and you decided his post fitted what you wanted.
Parker and Cherie went to the place to check it out for themselves. John Long was only one person in the picture. There was was plenty of information besides just what John Long wrote.

Just a few questions of the 'lovely man' Doug Parker if anyone can shed a little light and truth on the following... 1) Why did he take so long to release his book? I expect some will say he was researching, but could it be he was waiting until certain people were frail enough of mind and body that they were unable to refute hs claims.....perhaps even dead! 2) Has anyone actually been to the town where all this occurred and checked out his statements? 3) Has anyone asked his extended family as to the truth of his claims? 4) His little newspaper business that he 'loved', does anyone know about it and what happened to it? 4) Has anyone questioned why he left that town and moved what would be a considerable distance in those days away from his family? 5) What he did with all this so called money that he was going to put in a trust fund or whatever? I think you'll find the answers to some of these questions may well surprise. Not suggesting that there us no element of truth in his statements, but as you know each person reiterates a story just a little differently. Not suggesting he's a bad man, but none of us are snowy white perfection either. Take care everyone and be kind.

Doug Parker may not have had John Long diary but he sure knew about John Long and mentions him several times. Its too funny that you all think John Long says in his diaries that someone other than Irvine started the ball rolling when he doesn't say anything of that sort and even says a lot showing how Irvine was held in awe by him and the others and shows Irvine leading from the start and later even said that Irvine was the first. Twisting accounts to suit a ridiculous coverup of the beginnings is how things got turned into a lie to begin with and seems like some want to continue promoting the false story to get in good with those who keep the myths going strong. Just a few questions of the 'lovely man' Doug Parker if anyone can shed a little light and truth on the following... 1) Why did he take so long to release his book? Not suggesting he's a bad man, but none of us are snowy white perfection either. Take care everyone and be kind. This post above comes across as just a bunch more FUD-Fear Uncertainty and Doubt-thrown out instead of giving any useful information or being kind. Doug Parker published the basics of what is in the book in the early 1950s many years before the book and that very long article was distributed worldwide and those early F&Ws were almost all still active and many mentioned were even later on when the book came out around 1983 which includes things from many of them that sent to Parker to give a clearer picture. Many people did and continue to do check out his statements and have gone to the places he mentioned and looked up the records and the rest so why are you trying to raise suspiciousness with no information to back up those insinuations. Parker may or may not have been snowy white but he did a really good job of condensing the information that he found and so much more that backs it up has been uncovered since that the deniers and myth-spinners are about as convincing as the idealogues that deny the holocaust or climate change.

Thought I read that Doug Parker passed away... If so, Doesn't that put you in the same class as you put him? Never met Doug Parker, nor his wife, though I understood they traveled through here very near once.
However that maybe, I remember when someone sent me (anonymously) a copy of his Text. Having been told to "burn it" if one should arrive, and finding myself already put outside of that fellowship, I read it. Know what? From my previous nearly a half century of contact and knowledge in and with the group, having once been quite deeply inside it by "worker" experience in many states and a half dozen countries, there was little error of consequence in it that I could find. I actually wished I had known everything I learned while in that "work" BEFORE I gave so much of myself and life to it.
Like another pointed out here, my "voice" is NOT so easy to silence. However, it won't be long before the grave does it for those wishing it so now Then, I suspect, there will be those pointing out my sins, too. Plus a few they want to believe of me, as is done here with Doug Parker. As for me, I value his effort to present hidden things, just as I value all of Cherie's efforts to preserve knowledge and facts, along with all others I know of who have contributed as well. "Only Remembered..."
In any case, I am not practicing revisionist history.

I was told by a worker that he read most of the material found in The Secret Sect in the early 50's. Haven't heard a peep about a newspaper or any of the other.

As dmmich told above - Doug told his life story to a group of people in America in 1995 and it was taped--and transcribed. Click here to read the transcribed tapeIt should answer some of the questions posed. Such as: 4) His little newspaper business that he 'loved', does anyone know about it and what happened to it? (Sold it) 4) Has anyone questioned why he left that town and moved what would be a considerable distance in those days away from his family? (Doug went to Bible College and became an Anglican minister and chaplain and went whereever he was felt called to go--or was sent, however it worked) Often when someone doesnt come forward immediately with knowledge and blow a horn--this same question arises. From rape, CSA, etc. Why did they come out with it when they did. However, "WHEN" is irrelevant. Do the words of the messenger have value and truth? Often it takes some persuasion on the part of someone else (like me inviting someone to write their story). Or sometimes it can be seeing someone else about to be hurt by the same person or thing (perp)--before someone is ready and willing to speak out. Doug DID write something earlier (in 1954) that detailed his findings which has been widely circulated. It was printed like a newspaper (not as a book) and was the forerunner of the Secret Sect. Most of the original group of workers were still alive in 1954--if that is who you were referring to by "certain people". It was titled A Spiritual Fraud Exposed. Here is how Doug came about to write it: 1954: "A SPIRITUAL FRAUD EXPOSED:" To defend himself and also because he felt he should share the information he had discovered, Doug Parker printed the results of his investigation in 1954. The layout used was the same as used for newspapers today--it is referred to by many terms, such as a pamphlet, circular, newspaper, booklet, etc. It contained the truth, and Doug wanted to get the word out. The title of his Exposé was "A Spiritual Fraud Exposed." It is quite remarkable that Doug personally researched and wrote it in 1954-55 when he was a very young man, some 24-25 years old. The Expose' contained text written by Doug, as well as copies of letters, newspaper articles, statements and photographs. The paper begins with the words: "Having completed a world-wide investigation of a religious sect that claimed amongst its victims myself and family, I now feel it my duty after discovering what has been so cunningly concealed, to circulate this challenging exposure. Thousands of people the world over are being deliberately mislead by this bogus religious sect that is hidden under the cloak of "The Truth," and where origin can be traced to an unbalanced Evangelist, William Irvine. The endless pathway of destructed lives, caused by the activities and misinterpretations of this man, who classed his spiritual enterprise as an experiment in Christianity, is most certainly a pathetic tragedy. "Here we now find ruthless men who have gained his mantle, setting themselves up as rulers; separating wives from husbands, ex-communicating many of their junior preachers if such should happen to become in disfavour of their elders. Mental torture and persecution has been unmercifully resorted to, in order that 'this way' may be preserved. The undue, mental worry has not only resulted with asylum cases, and paralytic strokes, but also pre-mature loss of life. No Godly end justifies cruel means, and persecution is always wrong no matter how 'Holy' the cause may seem to be in which it is used as a weapon. Any belief that requires domination, cruelty, deliberate lies and fraud in order that it may be preserved, IS NOT OF GOD, and the sooner it is dissolved the better. "These men have circulated that my money was too big a sacrifice to relinquish, and was the consequent reason for my severance from their company. This is just another lie, and I challenge Mr. John Hardie (the Australian leader) or any other person to prove otherwise. Because of the amazing response to this exposure, with letters of appreciation from so many people who have suffered through this tyranny, I now take pleasure in going to press once again." In "A Spiritual Fraud Exposed" Doug tells that the sect was founded by Wm Irvine in 1899. "Wm Irvine was the sole foundation and was entirely responsible for the creation of this whole movement." He tells of Edward Cooney's hymns and excommunication; of discovering the old history in the Impartial Reporter articles; of John Hardie and Bill Carroll and Divisions in Victoria, Australia; of Wm Irvine being exiled to Jerusalem; of the workers decision to bury the past; of how the workers treated Doug, his family, and his investigation. His Exposé covered a lot of territory, and reported on events in the 2x2 sect that took place around the world. Thousands of copies of Parker's Exposé were mailed to the friends and workers in Australia and the USA in a carefully planned mass mailing, all sent out in the same week. Olga Hawkins, Kay Arvig and others helped with the distribution. For the first time, many workers learned about the true date and beginning of the 2x2 fellowship and ministry. The truth contained in the Exposé was not at all welcomed by some of the workers. Some older workers even intercepted the envelope containing the pamphlet addressed to their younger companions. Ruth Miller wrote of her husband, Fred Miller: "Fred was a young worker at that time. Printings came out to all the workers in most areas. His companion kept the mail from him and prevented his learning of it then. He simply knew 'something' was going on. And, of course, he knew he wasn't supposed to ask." (Ruth Miller Letter to J.S. dated July 4, 1988). Fred Miller wrote: "I was in the work in 1954 when the newspaper from Doug came out. I heard nothing but bad and evil things about him…" (Fred Miller Letter to Kathy Lewis June 18, 1995) Copied from TTT: www.tellingthetruth.info/founder_book/26wmibook.php#1954

What town and whose statements are you referring to? Doug or Irvine?
If you're talking about visiting Enniskillen and other places Doug investigated in the UK & Ireland, I've been there twice on research tours, in 2004 and 2014. The man who showed Doug around in Enniskillen, the newspaper editor, Mervyn Dane, graciously showed my husband and I around also and took us to visit various places where 2x2 history took place. And I know many others who have visited there also.

~~ Doug Parker HEARD the name of John Long was one of the 2x2 workers in 1900s. He had no clue the existence of John Long's journal. MOST of the workers didn't know John Long kept a journal of the early days until Cherie posted on her website TTT.
According to John Long's Journal....
It was the group of 2x2 workers got it rolling/moving forward.... John Long and Edward Cooney did most of the work to get the 2x2 movement going in 1898-99. The Faith Mission founder didn't appreciate what William Irvine (Faith Mission preacher) and John Long (Faith Mission prayer Union member) were doing and disassociated with them. Edward Cooney got the Sunday morning fellowship started among the group in 1901. William Irvine didn't stopped being a Faith Mission completely until 12/1900. William Irvine was wishy washy, half in and half out between staying as a Faith Mission preacher and be with the 2x2 movement 100%. Finally, he made up his mind and cast his all with the 2x2 movement in 12/1900. They elected WI as the overseer/leader of the group. PLEASE NOTE: The last paragraph (in red) is written by Nate--and is not written by John Long and that paragraph is not found in John Long's Journal. It is Nate's personal interpretation and paraphrase.

Well it doesn't really matter if it was John Long and Ed Cooney who started the 2x2's or William Irvine, the point is, someone started it in 1898-99 and it didn't go back to the time of Christ. It's just another version of Christianity started by men who had yet another interpretation of what the bible meant. Lots of them.

Dennis, Sorry if you feel that way, I had no idea that Doug Parker had passed away, I am very new here and obviously don't hang out in places where this knowledge may have reached me. Cherie, No I don't want to back track on what Doug Parker already has researched, not much point really, but him as the author incited my curiousity many years ago. Unlike you I was brought up with full knowledge of his works my parents spoke freely of him and I can never remember any 'worker' sidestepping or not answering my questions regarding this man. Yes he wrote his original piece and published it in 1954, the same year as he was going to supposedly go into the work. From this original publication he gathered further information, asking others to come forward with their stories etc. Perhaps like some have said no workers ever put forth anything to question him or justify themselves and I guess no worker ever bothered to go and gather evidence to write a book discounting his information. However having knowledge of this affair ab having no reason to not want to enquire as to his dealings I took it upon myself to research Doug Parker and find out a little of people's dealings with him, before he sold his 'newsagent' and closed down his building business. I did this in the 70's and unless there are 2 Doug Parkers who wrote that book, based on my research, feel Reviews comments on Doug Parker may well have hit a very close target. He sold the books to disgruntled 2x2's or ex 2x2's and also 'workers' bought them, whether to read them or try to stop circulation, I know not, but Doug Parker reaped the benefits!! My research was for personal reasons and I do not intending on publishing my findings in any way shape or form and whilst my comments may well do the FDU thing, if you're that way inclined, I urge everyone to do their own research, it has been a blessing to me and I'm sure you'll all receive the same!

If someone writes a book why shouldn't they reap the benefits of it ? I cannot imagine Doug making any great amount of money from his books anyway ! Also if the workers had nothing to hide why buy the books to burn them ?

What were Doug's "reaped benefits"? Can you tell me how much money Doug Parker made on his book? Most self published book authors about 2x2 subjects barely cover their cost, if that. Many go in the hole I heard that for Doug's first reprint, money was donated from various concerned people. I doubt Doug made much off his books.

Yes, I "Believe" (not feel) as I do from information I began receiving back in the very early '50's, probably beginning some 20 years before your "discoveries."
Now this is not some defense of your ad homininem attack on him, apparently by hearsay, rather in defense of what he chose to preserve as his personal discoveries in text form. Indeed, there is little in that Text "Secret Sect" which I did not learn before, but mostly while in that work. The fallacy of logic you make is in not addressing issue after issue with logic based upon fact and not revisionist history as is the manner of some.
Now, then, as to any economic gain the man may have received. Let's say he sold 10,000 of them, and profited a few bucks on each one over the years, surely you are not going to claim and make that a motivation factor? Surely not! If so, (just shaking my head in disbelief anyone could be such a one!)
So, go ahead, get your copy, and start to find fault with it line by line, paragraph by paragraph chapter by chapter, all with bibliography as in that text! I'm waiting, probably like Cherie to learn more "truth!" You can do so in this forum little by little.
Yes, I, at over 72 years of age, am "calling you out." Do I expect you to do so? No. Why not. Because I believe you know you cannot, and can only attack the man, rather than the issue of the text. From my own experience, and that of many other men and women much better than myself (thinking of Fred Miller, Sharon Hargreaves, Edgar Massey, and a host of others) such a response is most common among us. So be it.

I find it strange that someone goes to a lot of trouble researching something or someone & makes vague allegations-yet doesn't even give any references at all to how we can find the same material!
If it is all true, -at least a person can provide the method & reference of their work even though they may not want to publish the results themselves!

Oh yeah, must have been those disgruntled "ex-es," huh?

It's really a matter if who's telling the story isn't it and what answers the questioner is seeking! For instance I know of some people who would describe me as rebellious, the old ladies I assist say I'm kind, my children at times have said I'm cranky, my paraplegic friend says I'm a good Christian lady, drug addicts, women suffering from DV and those from CSA abuse say I'm a blessing.........yet apart from the rebellious and cranky bit I tend to think they could all be wrong!!!! So being sufficiently rebellious enough and my parents not hiding stuff from me, I set out to find out a few things for myself, did I go to the workers, professing folk, no, Ross I'm sure your parents are/were wonderful, but they certainly weren't who I wanted to test my theories on. Instead I went to where Doug Parker had his business interests, lived and worked amongst those people who were once his people, At the time I did it for my own purpose( I could say God 'placed me there, but I know I persued it), my findings were for me, my future family and are now for my grandchildren, and they are recorded only for them. What is done with it after I die will be up to them. At no time did Doug Parker receive hate mail from me, my findings achieved a purpose although it was not the one I intended. Anybody could have done the same thing, most didn't!! Roselyn it doesn't matter how old I was in the 70's,suffice to say I was rebellious and on a mission and I now have grandchildren. Ross I'm not sure about private funerals people will draw their own conclusions.

We all love a blessing. I am sure Doug's book was a blessing to many. In fact I know it was.

Yes sure was!!! I wasn't able to get hold of the 1954 publication in the 70's, so when that book came out it confirmed all that I'd been told.
