It seems the news spreading through the 2x2 world is that Leslie was cleared of all charges and his accuser was found to be very mentally unstable. Is any part of this true, and if not, what correcting information can I give?

When I posted that, I hadn't yet read through this entire thread as it was long and I hadn't had time. I just read through most of it and saw Scott's posts which were helpful. I sent them back a response with some of that info.

LOL...I guess I did see you EMY and I didn't even know it! Yes, I'm alive and well and yes the investigation in CO is also alive and ongoing. The day after lw sent out his email I did speak with Joel the investigator and he confirmed what I already knew; that the investigation hasn't been closed. Anyone feeling any need to confirm that for themselves is more than welcome to speak to Joel Heap the investigator themselves. I know his number is posted on this site somewhere. Now I'm going to get back to my life - Goodbye!

mangochango, ma'am, please know I, for one, do not doubt your word in the slightest. This matter of lack of integrity in overseers is what (along with severe physical injury) to leave that work (with great sorrow) in 1971. Disillusionment after disillusionment, and still I, like some here kept defending the indefensible, until I had to be drug from the group kicking and screaming until being forced by excommunication over total lies to be separated from a lifetime of family and friends by a lying overseer who was very aware of many shameful things about him and others in his place worldwide.
Each of us, much like David of old can attempt to hide our sin. Being guilty of my own forgiven sin, though known to me and my God, kept me from seeking truth to be known in my own unjust situation until it was too late. I surely desire that NOT to be your own circumstance now. If there is any way I can be of help now please contact me outside this forum. You have my new wife, Kathleen's complete compassion, as I have not kept one thing from her. Wishing you all the best in the future, Ma'am. Every possible blessing!

To Whom It May Concern,
I, Sgt. Joel Heap of the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office along with the Investigations Unit, located in Kiowa, State of Colorado have been investigating the allegations of a criminal act committed by Leslie White. Within the past few months I have received multiple phone calls regarding a letter that was sent, presumably by Mr. White. The letter reads as follows;
Leslie White 1301 Battle Ridge Rd. Clinton, Maine 04927 lslwht@yahoo.com 703 338-8887
Nearly three years ago I was accused of a terrible thing that completely surprised and startled me for I knew I was falsely accused but hardly knew how to respond, and what to do. However I had faith the matter would ultimately be resolved and our good family name restored. I am so very grateful for the Workers and Friends who have stood by me during these painful, dark, days. God has provided a peace and comfort during this time that I have been very grateful for. Your prayers, letters, emails, and telephone calls have been such a strong support, and have helped to sustain me spiritually and physically.
Blessedly some of the Workers and Friends took the initiative to reconstruct the time and events of this terrible thing, which was to have occurred nearly ten years previous, and were able to prove I was not present at the time and place of the alleged crime. Many people were officially interviewed to build a conclusive body of evidence and get to the truth of this matter. Because of all this effort I am now able to write this letter today with the hope of clearing our family name.
Ultimately local authorities also dropped the complaint and made no charges due to lack of evidence.
This experience has been very painful and humbling and it has taught me so very much. I pray these lessons will stay with me the rest of my days.
Please note, during the next five or six months I plan to be in Colorado working with some of the Friends.
Thank you for your prayers, interest, and every kindness.
Your brother,
Leslie White
I, (Sgt. J. Heap) would like to make it very clear that this case is still under investigation with Mr. White as the suspect of the criminal acts committed. At no point have I or the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office made any statements regarding the complaint being dropped due to lack of evidence. In fact, Mr. White has been given the opportunity to give his side of the story since the time of discovery of the allegations, however refuses to do so. Mr. White has never contacted me in any form regarding this case and would have no viable way to make an accurate conclusion or statement that the local authorities dropped the complaint and made no charges due to lack of evidence. The offer has always stood on the table for him to come forward and speak with me regarding the events that took place and to this day I have heard nothing from him or the people he claims have reconstructed the time of events and found him not liable. The Elbert County Sheriff’s Office will continue to investigate and build our case as information continues to be brought forward.
Regards,

Just in case anyone was still wondering about whether the case was open or not. Joel sent me this today. I will try to get the document which is on official Sheriff office letterhead attached here if I can figure out how to do it. Supposedly the it is too big to attach here, and I don't have time right now to figure out how to reduce the size.

I wonder how many people believed LW's letter to be true unfortunately. Probably many especially since the official word coming from overseers is that 'mangochango' is lying and that "poor Leslie is not in the work because of what seems to be a false allegation." This was said to us by two overseers who were even involved in dealing with other accusations against Leslie prior to the rape allegation.

I wonder if the attitudes of these overseers will change if he is officially found guilty? It didn't seem to make much difference to how people viewed things when Frandle was found guilty and did his 'time'. It was just seen as the law having it in for the workers wasn't it? I honestly don't understand this mindset. Do they believe they are above the law or the law doesn't apply to them or what is it?

Could be seen as " a whole jury got it wrong". Even an admittance of guilt by Leslie could be dismissed or discredited due to mental stress or just to end the whole thing - especially in plea deal and punishment is almost nothing all due to good defense lawyers, Leslie's age and health, limited evidence and what have you.

I see. Thank you Greg. I feel sorry for those who worked up the courage to come forward if this is how the membership is going to see it. It really leaves them looking like the 'problem', not the person who was found guilty if that's what happens in the end.

Frandle's case was dismissed as an attack by the enemies of the Way - that's how a worker referred to it to us. I assume that the "enemy" is whoever reported him and/or testified against him. It is probably true though that the workers genuinely weren't aware of the mandatory reporting law for ministers. But I find the labeling and the avoidance of addressing the real issue troubling.

Ross Bowden's post on this thread once again reveals what appears to be almost an obsession he has with the church he left 20 years ago. His post contains his litany against the workers in his home state NSW in Australia.... on a thread about Leslie White in the United States. My observation is that Ross has allowed his mind and soul to be consumed by this cruel obsession. Ross now goes to a church in the Anglican denomination. It's worldwide problems with unbiblical practices, tolerance of gay clergy, blessing same sex marriages etc. CSA allegations and scandals in many countries His obsession with his past church seems to have blinded him to the 'perverse sickness' in his present denomination. Obsession? The way that you keep at Bowden is OBSESSION writ large!

Yes, anyone offering free, unsolicited advice about our church needs to be "outed" about their own current church. Until you do it's an unfair playing field.

Aren't you the pot calling the kettle black?
I see no evidence of you doing one single thing about the problems in your own church either!

Ross Bowden's post on this thread once again reveals what appears to be almost an obsession he has with the church he left 20 years ago. For most people it's not possible to "leave" the 2x2 church even when they stop attending meetings. It's more than a "church" to attend. It's a sub-culture, a way of life and for many church members it's the only way to eternal salvation and the only way to escape eternal hell. Many exes are part of families that have been in the fellowship for several generations. They have regular contact with friends and relatives who are still "in". For Ross and many other exes, this is their "tribe". They have as much right to discuss the church and its culture as you do.

If review wants to know or post about another church he needs to go on to a website where they discuss that church. This board is about your church, review.

Why don't you PM Ross and ask him yourself. Alternatively you might need to read all his posts again and see if you can find out the answers you are seeking from them.
Notice however I did not mention any person or church in my post you responded to so as to keep the focus on your church as I know how you like to remind us that this board is about your church.
