The medical profession is a joke. The most they can do is extend life. Go visit a nursing home and see the marvels of modern medicine. Dying is as natural as being born. These quacks (many of them) are pill pushers leading to the scourge of prescription drug abuse. The main thing they know how to do is charge, charge and overcharge you, the government or the insurance companies. In any other profession, you don't charge people if you can't fix their products. Not the dang medical profession. Seems like the nursing home population is growing by leaps and bounds. We have interfered with God's plan and we have created these bed bound patients. Since you feel that way about the medical profession, as a professional Registered Nurse I think that maybe you should never go near any medical facility ever again!
Just "Take a couple of aspirin and (DON'T) call us in the morning."

Sometimes I think the medical community causes more pain and suffering. I mean their surgery, pills, treatments etc. often prolong agony. We love our elderly relatives and try to postpone the funeral as long as possible. I think the medical profession can be thanked for some of the needless pain and suffering. Why are you blaming the medical community for the cause of more pain and suffering if it is, "We"(you?) postpone the funeral as long as possible.?"

Some even go to the medical community to end their pain and suffering , and end their life . Like a lawyer's response to criticism that lawyers are just big ripoff people and should be eliminated, "if you guys would quit coming to us with your problems there would be no lawyers" Alvin

I thought Jesus was supposed to be some kind of sacrifice that did the suffering FOR us?
he did...he was punished and then crucified for our sins...he died so that we don't have to die on judgment day...cause thats when the real suffering begins For any normal human, the idea of animal and/or human sacrifice is nauseating and abhorrent. Most people think that the practice of The Aztecs sacrificing a virgin on top of a pyramid is not something to be championed. Nor do they believe that the Aztec gods were impressed by that act. So the story claims that Jesus was a blood sacrifice. A son sacrificed by his father to cleanse people of original sin. Original sin that was instituted by the same father who sent his son as a human sacrifice. Doesn't it seem that an omnipotent omniscient being could come up with a better way to eliminate the original sin he created than killing his son? But many christians seem to revel in the idea of this sacrifice. How many went to see The Passion of the Christ?

. if you haven't had a God experience then I very much understand why your in the position your in . .but when you have then there isn't anyone who'll ever be able to put you back in that box .. . and it isn't about a religion ..it's about knowing Him and being aware He's there . .I do . . I wish that for you because it changes everything .. It might be interesting to know what you consider a "God experience" and how do you know that others have not had the same experience as you have but simply attribute it to a more prosaic cause? Many use the word 'miracle' to describe easily explainable events. Care to share? An experience outside the norm of life experience ..a change, both physical and mental, instantaneous ...if there were nothing else in my life that lead me to believe, caused me to look outside myself and my own thoughts, this would be all I needed to stand where I stand . .except it hasn't . .I've experienced His hand over my life countless times since and seen the eveidence of it over and over .. .and I know this brief description won't have any changing of your own thoughts but like I've told you and others here previously ..if you are an honest person with an honest heart that desires to know the truth and wants to know if He's really there . ..ask Him ...it's really that simple .. . .if your honest ..

..and I don't speak for anyone else and their experiences .. but do you consider that their experience, regardless of what they consider, can be God working . .and those explainable events may be actual miracles ..or is there only one way to see it?

I appreciate your response and a description of your beliefs but it does not provide the experiences themselves that can be considered by others to compare them to their own experiences. What one person might consider a miracle could be an event that is easily explained by another as a natural/normal experience. Odd that you think the reason people have not heard the voice of god is because they are not being honest. Have you considered the possibility that people who claim to hear the voice of god are the ones not being honest? People claiming paranormal events have never fared well when their claims have been carefully examined.

DMMichgood, I am sure you have seen a lot of crap in the medical institutions over the years. People/insurance/government being charged $10.00 for a band aid. Doctors prescribing medicine without checking on side effects. Doctors abusing patients pain killers. You name it. Some lonely old folks hang around doctor's offices because they are bored and don't have any social life. The ONLY real thing they can do is sort of stop problems before they worsen. Once you have a full blown illness, all they will do is charge you money to tell you there is nothing more they can do for you. The fewer doctors you have the better.

Chad , Mozambique , Ethiopia and quite a number of African countries would be quite suited for anyone who really believes "the fewer doctors the better" I think Nairobi has 548 doctors for 22 million people. Not exactly paradise , but fairly close? I do understand your legitimate concerns and observations, but the solution surely isn't in eliminating doctors. Alvin

Do you expect them to preform "miracles" and not even charge you for it? Or would you rather they lied to you? Instead of telling you there is nothing more that they can do for you, they would lead you on with more & more expensive tests & medicine?
You are painting the whole medical profession with a very black brush.
That is offensive to all hard working people I know.

Are you saying that I'm NOT an honest person and that I do not desire to know the truth?
How could I, as an honest person, ask something of a supernatural being that I don't see any evidence of existing? Wouldn't that in itself be dishonest?
You can class me as not having an honest "heart," but when I honestly, sincerely seek the truth, I find no evidence for there being any supernatural hand covering me.
Oh, Indeed I thought so when I was "professing." I wasn't factoring into my experience the times that NO "hand" was covering me!
By ignoring those times, I could convince myself I believed in that supernatural being called god.

i wonder if this is true...it most places in the USA if you strike a child you go to jail... It rides on, for many locations, the definition of 'strike'. It also depends on your relationship with the child. A teacher, for example, can use corporal punishment in 19 of the US states (some require the permission of the parents). Using a closed fist or an object usually indicates that the line has been crossed. The question is - What does striking a child to hurt them teach the child?

What it teaches a child is that "might makes right"
Just wait until they grow up & become bigger in body, have more money, or position of power. Then they believe that is alright for them to hurt others less strong, less wealthy, less powerful.
Not only do they believe that it the "right" way to act, but that they are doing so in the best interests of the recipients. They use that model often set before them by adults: "I'm "spanking" you for your own good (fill in the blank________)"
Think of the ramifications of that idea in the hands of the 2% wealthiest or the most political powerful people. Gives an idea of some of the problems in society.

to motivate people away from or towards certain behaviors... By using force you may instill fear and you may get them to do what you want, but you can't change their mind. As soon as the fear is removed, the person will be the same as they once were.

to motivate people away from or towards certain behaviors... It you are unable to implement positive reinforcement to get the behavior you want from children I think that you will get better results by implementing negative reinforcement rather than positive punishment.

Many are not suited to be parents, but they fell for the ark story and believe they have to repopulate the earth. After all, there are only 7.2 billion +-, that's 7.2 BILLION, on the face of the earth (a few more than eight, the number on the ark if memory serves [and we all 'know' that those eight were all that existed on the face of the earth at that time - earth being a very small location situated in the Middle East and not including the populations elsewhere on the big blue sphere - wonder what that sphere was called during bible writing days]). Others believe it is their right to have kids "because kids are cute and I want one!" Unfortunately, many kids lose their cuteness after five or ten years old and their parents ignore them. What a wonderful society. Selfish needy people who satisfy their desires by having kids with no thought or mind toward the future. There are many good reasons for birth control. Bad parenting is only one of them.

The point is that there ARE medical procedures that increase pain and suffering yet don't really improve the quality of life. Kidney dialysis is one of them. Finally the body rejects the procedure and kidneys can fail.
Some of the problem is the desire to "extend life at any cost" mentality of the patient or their family. To blame it all on the creator and not put any blame on the medical institution isn't a fair assessment of the situation. Where were the nursing homes in the 1800s? Or into the early 1900s?
Visit a geriatric center full of bed or wheel chair patients and tell me that extending life is really mercy. Lots of medicines out there create vegetables that really would have been better off to have just passed away. I don't believe in euthanasia but that is a different situation.

I'm not trying to tell you that "extending life at any cost" is the most desirable way to handle health.
But for you to attempt to blame it on the medical profession, the patient, or family,- is ridiculous
Think of all the patients that died prior to having kidney dialysis? "Bright's disease" was kidney diseases, - nephritis. Have you any idea what it was like to die from nephritis?
Do You really want to go back to those days, or back to the days before antibiotics & watching your child die from pneumonia?
If you don't all that kind of medical help, all you need to do is say so & make a legal statement to the fact and they will just let "your creator" do his thing & you can die.
It is called a "living will" & everyone should have one. That way you can decide how much medical treatment you want & don't want. & spell it all out in a legal document.

I have asked older people to tell me where the nursing homes where when they were young and most of them cannot do that. Death is as natural as birth. What I fear is months to years of being bedridden and/or wheelchair ridden wearing an adult diaper.
