Lee ~ That's no way to talk about people just because they don't share your beliefs? What's the reason for all this hostility you feel towards atheists? They aren't doing you any harm just because they don't believe in supernatural deities? There's a lot of people who share their beliefs in the world and many of them are great humanitarians. One from the past would be Abraham Lincoln, who had little regard for organized religion and was considered an atheist by many of his associates for most of his adult years. However, he never joined a church or embraced the fundamental teachings of Christianity. He had his reasons for his actions based on what he had read and researched for himself over the years. I believe the people you call atheists have done a lot of similar research into the beliefs of different religions and share many of the same views that Lincoln did from the past? In fact, they also have reasons for the way they believe. So, why not lighten up a bit on them, as they are no threat to you or anybody else on this Board? . en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abraham_Lincoln_and_religion

William Lewis had Abraham Lincoln in heaven, according to Tom Shroeder's account on TLT. Walker ~ Can you share a link with me relating to your comment above?
However, the only point I wished to convey was that even if somebody is raised by God fearing parents, like Lincoln, it didn't mean they believed everything they were taught and became believers in Christ? The article below provides some insights to this fact. Also, a number of people today who call themselves atheists/agnostics were at one time devout Christians. As they researched the roots of Christianity and historical records regarding Christ and the creation of the Christian Bible, they began to question its authenticity and their beliefs. Some may have lost all faith in the existence of God, while others held to a belief in a Higher Power or Creator God, but not according to the Christian concept of God Incarnate in the form of Jesus Christ. I believe Abraham Lincoln was one of these people who still held to a belief in a Creator God, but not a belief in Jesus as God as taught by Christianity. His own words verify this fact.
Abraham Lincoln never endorsed the basic teachings of Christianity according to his close associates in life and his own words. However, when his young son, Willie, died, he seemingly became more receptive to Christian beliefs? However, a review of his personal remarks in life show a whole different side to Abraham Lincoln that would more closely resemble a man like Thomas Jefferson, an earlier President. Some considered him a "deist" at best and many acquaintances referred to him as an "infidel" due to his unbelief in the Christian God which extended into his adult life. However, it does seem he had a change of heart in later years from all reports?
www.patheos.com/blogs/deaconsbench/2012/11/abraham-lincoln-atheist/
In conclusion, regardless of his religious beliefs, Abraham Lincoln was a very upright and decent human being who made a big impact upon American history in his stand against slavery. In my opinion, he was one of the greatest Presidents that ever lived and left a powerful legacy behind him.

He'd had it with the sh-heads on here who don't believe in God. Really? I never got that feeling in any of the discussions I has with him over the years. Can you back up your claim?Well, we can try to educate people about narrow minded individuals who believe as you do all the while waiting for you to produce a single point of evidence to support your claims.

Lincoln shed southern blood which haunted the South for decades. Atheists explain what they don't believe in but have a hard time explaining what they DO believe in! I don't hate atheists. I just think Christians need to stand their ground here. Back to Mr. Beaber, I wonder whatever happened to Ernest Stanley?

Atheists explain what they don't believe in but have a hard time explaining what they DO believe in! That's because you don't listen. Atheists, by definition, do not believe in a deity or deities. I don't have a difficult time in explaining what I do believe in. For example, I believe that in any isolated system the entropy will increase unless there is energy input from an external source. I'm thinking you believe in this as well. Of course christians should stand firm in their beliefs. And since they are faith based beliefs that require neither logical nor material support, these beliefs do not require proof and christians, as any other group, have no need to provide proof for their beliefs.

No. Atheists talk in circles and use scientific jargon and yet dodge simple answers to questions. But if you believe in nothing, that it Ok with me. I have seen science change just like any other belief system. I remember when the earth was millions of years old and now it is billions years old and increasing faster than the passage of time. There are scientists who want to make a name for themselves promoting some new theory. Atheists can't pinpoint a central power source behind it all. A battery and gasoline runs a car. Electricity powers most appliances today. There is a power source out there that is much bigger than all of us combined.

No. Atheists talk in circles and use scientific jargon and yet dodge simple answers to questions. Or you simply do not like the answers.Once again, I do not believe in a paranormal bring but simply because I believe in one less paranormal being than you do certainly does not mean I believe in nothing.Of course. The theories change to reflect new data. That is far better than ignoring data or twisting it to fit unchanging spiritual dogmas.Well, you can trust in the biblical record and stick with the 6,000-10,000 year old earth regardless of what the data shows. Not all scientists are atheists. That is probably why there is a hydraulic engineer saying that the grand canyon was formed in a few hundred years.Atheists simply do not believe in deities. Many of them do not concern themselves with the source of energy that powers the universe. Saying that the "god of the gaps" filled up the universe's energy tank to get things going does not really offer much! Unless, of course, it is hydrogen powered.Unless they are wind powered. Or water powered.Well, the sun fits that description. And since it is a medium sized star, there are many, many, many stars out there with power bigger than all of us combined. Unless you are a lot more massive than I am envisioning.

Herman was in our union meeting when I was first married in the 1986-1990 timeframe. I loved his testimonoes as did many others. The room was very quiet and attentive when he spoke. He wasn't a long speaker but his testimonies where consequential. It reminds me of my grandfather, Williard Wilkie, who had the same effect on people when he spoke in meeting.

He PMed me in some course of anguish about me saying I didn't believe in Satan or something. I was espousing views that were too closely associated with atheists and it threatened his faith. Well, we can try to educate people about narrow minded individuals who believe as you do all the while waiting for you to produce a single point of evidence to support your claims. Our concepts of narrow-mindedness are mutually exclusive and we shall never agree.

Lee ~ Thank you for responding to my post. I was concerned as to why you shared some of the views you did about atheists. You see, I have been married to an atheist most of my life and don't share his same views, because I'm a Christian. However, I have learned to accept his beliefs as being a viable part of his make-up just like my Christian beliefs are a big part of my own make-up. I don't let it divide us, simply because we don't see eye-to-eye regarding religious beliefs. At one time my husband was a member of the 2x2's for 10 years, but he lost interest in all religion after he left due to what he witnessed within the fold. I came close to that point in my life, too, after I departed the Truth fellowship 15 years later. However, as I see it today, religion can appear like a tangled web to some and they get turned off by the things they see. My husband would fall within that category. However, he's still a good man with a strong sense of right and wrong and cares about people. He just has no interest in religion and has been that way since 1981 ~ over 33 years, in fact. I don't try to change him and he doesn't try to change me, and we live at peace with one another.
Sometimes we just need to put aside our preconceived notions about some people due to their beliefs and just accept them as our fellowman. I'm sorry if my words came across as harsh in any way. I was just concerned about the attitude I saw in your post and wondered what was behind it? No hard feelings, I hope? After all, we're all dealing with stuff in our lives that can stress us out, because we can't make sense out of it. However, perhaps not everything was meant to be understood and we just have to accept that fact?

Should I be against you because you are Christian? I would say no. We don't believe in God. Period. We do believe in love and compassion, caring about others and their welfare, trying to be the very best we can be in this life. We just don't share your belief in God.

It only justifies more their contempt for religion due to its exclusive nature, IMHO. What makes you think anyone has contempt for religion? Is contempt ever justified. Once again, other than their lack of belief in a deity or deities, you cannot pack atheists into neat package of your own design and think it is accurate.

Rational ~ Perhaps I should have said "contempt for Christians" instead of religion? However, I was referring to the exclusive nature of Christian religions, so perhaps it doesn't matter which word I use? Regarding contempt ~ no, I don't feel it's justified, but people seem to show it freely when it comes to religious matters.
Also, I have no interest in packing atheists into neat little boxes due to their lack of belief in God or deities. What they choose to believe makes no difference to me. Like you indicated earlier, "belief is based on faith ~ it doesn't have to be proven ~ only accepted." Therefore, I accept my faith in God and belief in an afterlife as part of my chosen identity in this world. You accept the opposite as your identity in this world and that's also O.K. with me.

I am ready for glory brother! That grave won't hold me down! Christians seem to like packing themselves into a package, neat or not. I have no issue with those who believe in a creator, intelligent design, elves and fairies, or any other paranormal entities/events. But if that belief is presented as fact then I feel the person making the claim has some obligation to provide proof. And so far, we have been fortunate that the courts support this view and prevent unsupported claims from being taught in public schools as fact. I am glad you are ready for glory and would like nothing more than for some evidence that the grave will not hold you down but given the results regarding the fate of humans following death it would seem that nothing will be known for certain until death. I am glad your belief gives you comfort, assuming it does.

Rational badgers the theists on TMB by a standard interrogation, "Do you have any proof of a paranormal being?" First of all Rational hasn't any proof of his own existence. He changes during his life. He has no evidence he'll ever exist again. He no more exists than God does by his own criteria. All the while he irrationally persists in demanding proof of God from theists.
