I realize not everyone on this board can afford to contribute to a fund, but could as many of us that can make a pledge to supply what we can to help Dennis?
I'll start with another $100.
I think any amount you could give would be appreciated.
We need an address, Dennis.
If you don't care to make that public, maybe each one that can contribute could PM you for your address.

In factually relating my sad experiences with 2&2ism, even though I tried to be fair as possible, Katie was very doubtful about the charity of group and former group members. As the charitable amount now grows to nearly $400.00 for my medical care, she has been weeping to at the kindness of those of you who have come forward, and is softening a great deal. She did think very highly of the couple and children who made my trip here possible and who took us out to dinner, and even though originally going to that dinner with reservations, left with warm feelings for that family. She cannot comprehend why Mark Huddle refused to even reply to my desperate begging of him, yet that seems to be S.O.P. for such men who have reached that place of power.
It is a difficult thing, this being forced to beg, yet others have had to do so, and they lived through it. Have treatment tomorrow at the UTMB pain clinic, for pain evaluation. As it is only about 2.5 miles from us, I will use my electric wheel chair to get there. Thank you each one, you know who you are, and I am learning also, yet will not use your real names to thank you. Besides, I am convinced thanking my God for each one of you, believer or not, WILL benefit you in the end, even if you do not believe that way.

Following the practice of transparency and full accounting, I want to keep all posted on this effort to dig me out of this agonizing state. Someone saw a tee shirt I was wearing that using art and computer design techniques I created. They asked me to give a bid on 50 shirts for their company. So, I am doing what I can to earn for my own need as well. One more has written (making 6 now) to say they wish to help. Thank you, everyone. I vow I will continue to do whatever I can to earn, save and accumulate these needed funds.

This afternoon, Katie and I both shed many tears of appreciation, joy and love from an offer to help with my need. It was from Vietnam, and no small amount, neither. I wrote back pleading they keep it to give to uncle Hoa, as my need is so great we don't see how it can ever be met by such loving friends as you all here. Nonetheless, it ought to put overseer Mark Huddle to shame for ignoring my reasonable request for assistance after all these years of limited mobility and torment. Here these overseeing workers sit on huge war chests of funds supposedly exactly for such needs yet they will not honor my simple request, or even acknowledge it.
Kay and I have put our minds together and we are trying to raise this amount somehow other than pure charity. I AM an artist, disabled, but still able to create in my mind if not with my hands as I did for a while. I am using the computer to try to create short and long sleeve tee shirts with a Company's logo and ID upon them, and presently have a pending order for 50 of my creations with a logo I have designed for them printed upon them as well as their company name. We hope it will come to fruition, which if it does will double the contributions of you wonderful caring folks from many walks and beliefs in life.
Another chilly spell clear down to here in Texas. It was so cold from Austin and Houston all the way over to Pensacola and points east in Fla. that bridges and roads had to be closed. Much fruit and vegetables appear to have been lost.

If this does not soften the hardest hearts even in this forum I don't know what will. Email just arrived that though I begged them to give it to uncle Hoa, some of the Vietnamese people have sent $200.00 to assist in this growing fund for my future medical care! From those kind people in that far country, but the overseer in Washington State would not even acknowledge my letter and request for help! (Remembering helping a lady give birth 25 clicks SW of DaNang up outside a village along the Del Sol sometime in March of 1963.)

In keeping with transparency and honesty, I am thankful to report the fund established for me grows to about 1/25th of the amount I need for the surgery or just less than $1000.00 dollars. Thank each and everyone of you so very very much, and especially those who can least afford making such gifts! I am so very very grateful. Some have sent checks, and they will be deposited soon in a special bank account.

I know the VA picks up almost 100% of the cost for veterans. Not sure what kind of surgery that the VA doesn't handle. unless it's cosmetic, dental or visual. Being a vet myself. Dennis posted: Needing more surgery, and exhausting all other avenues of support, I explained with documentation to others my absolute need of $25,000.00 for this degeneration of the spine new elective surgery on it for this decades old injury as a worker, known world wide to have been untreated.
I think this explains it: Benefits are restricted to those devices, treatments, or procedures for which the safety and efficacy have been proven to be comparable or superior to conventional therapies. Any device, medical treatment, supply or procedure whose safety and efficacy has not been established and proven is considered experimental/investigational (unproven) and is excluded from coverage. Perhaps if the descriptive name of the procedure was posted someone might know a way to get it done. Perhaps a clinical trial.

I was in physio a long time. I found walking as much as I could made a difference in pain levels and I healed pretty fast. If I hadn't had other complications I believe I would be just fine today. Keep us updated. We do care and wait to hear from you.

Rational ~ From working in the past for the VA Regional Office in Claims, I was reminded of that clause. However, some hospitals will even write-off such surgical cost due to applying for financial aid through the hospital before or after the surgery.
I don't know how the VA Hospital itself works along these lines to help veterans in need, but I would think they also would have a financial aid program, and especially for service-connected combat veterans? I truly hope that some window of opportunity will open that will cover this necessary surgery, so as Dennis can enjoy his remaining years in better health and not worrying over the cost of his surgery?

This last surgical procedure came to just under $8,000.00 The portion I had to pay was 25%, or just a fraction over $2,000.00 Using the total of $1325.00 bestowed upon me by the kindness of your hearts and several hundred dollars I had garnered, It was accepted as sufficient, and thankfully the balance was forgiven. Katie is retiring at the end of May and we wish to move back to the place in SW Washington State at or by the end of June. Moving back to Washington, and the Portland area, I will once again be under the care of a decent VA facility and staff. Unfortunately it is just not the same all over the United States.
As to the state of my physical condition, it is slowly improving, (I think.) Still lots of pain as many of you have experienced, also. Still receiving follow up care and physical therapy treatment.

That's wonderful regarding the financial part!! Glad to hear you are still improving. It does take awhile and physio and exercises do help. I found walking to be very good exercise, but also stretching and strengthening exercises they gave me. May you continue to improve and hopefully you will be pain free at some point. All the best, been thinking of you and wondering how you were progressing.

Sure you may ask, however you really don't need to ask for I answered that already.
With pain more than I could cope with, even considering "checking out" to escape its constant toil, I begged for some acceptable alternative that I could afford, as 1350 plus my portion just would not handle the $25,000.00 bill. Then a less lasting, and partially covered medical procedure alternative was proposed by another team of doctors, and in desperation I took it as I think anyone in my situation would. And, at least the pain level has been reduced to tolerable, from constant agony.
Now I am doing my best to put it behind me and out of my mind, thankful for all those who have helped. The next apt is in a week, and the surgeon will tell me what he believes the prognosis to be. In the mean time, I am doing all I can to overcome the remaining pain, and increase my own mobility by following every bit of physical therapy advice I get. Is this answer satisfactory?
