This month's issue of Scientific Mind magazine has articles on the "seven deadly sins."
The first is on "gluttony." Quite interesting on why we tend to "put on weight"!

Finally got the book 'The Zealot'. Already lots of interesting points of view. Maybe it should be a book for the book reading club.

What are the chances of this being true? Spoilsport. Never let truth get in the way of a good story or a good moral. That is the 2by2 connection is it not. Where you excommunicated for this sort of behaviour? Thanks for the thread Snow.

Was thinking about all the people in this world that believe in some type of holy scripture. Depending on which book they adhere to, depends on how much they believe they are a 'lessor being'. I have found the monotheistic scriptures to be the most condemning of humanity. The leaders of these religions and the writers of their scriptures have all made humanity out to be a lessor being, sinners. They have developed attributes that are supposedly unattainable by humans and then say if humanity can't reach these heights then they are sinners and need someone to save them or they will spend eternity in hell. It was a smart move on the part of those who made these rules because they truly make people believe them and think they are sinners. Since they are unattainable, experience in this life makes it seem as though they truly are sinners. However, understanding that these rules are all man made with control of the 'masses' in mind, it releases us from believing we are sinners and lessor beings. We recognize the ploy behind the rules and understand why they were put in place. When that happens we are freed from the grip of believing we are a sinner that is damned for eternity if we don't do 'something' to appease God. When you know this you let go of the concept of being a sinner and embrace the beauty of your humanity. Man made rules no longer have the power to make you shameful or guilty about who you are or what you are. Human. It's sad that humanity views itself as such a terrible creation. Don't let the religious leaders and ancient scripture define you.
It's good to understand that you are making up what you perceive to be your reality. There is an absolute reality, the laws of nature for eg. However, how we view absolute reality becomes our experience of that reality. Letting someone else define your reality can block you from having a wonderful experience in life. Or it can also make your experience wonderful. It just depends on what works for you. In either case, your definition of real will dictate what your life experience is like. Since we are all unique, each of us has a different perception of life and therefore our experience is uniquely ours. How we react to life, how we define what is happening, is always our choice. That becomes our reality whether it is real or not. Makes choice a very important aspect of how much you will enjoy life, whether you view yourself as a victim or not, etc.

Thanks, snow! That was great! I usually don't bother to watch any video to the end but I did that one!
There really isn't any need to fear death! Just make the story of our lives a good one!

Yes, and when you really think about it, it's all we have that's for sure anyway. What we make of our lives is what matters. How we treated others lives on in the hearts of those left behind and that can be either positive or negative. Make it a positive remembrance and make our story a good one! That's a win win for me. Not only do we have a good life then, we also help make some one else's life a good life too!!

I find them intriguing too! Have you seen this? There is a large winter colony of crows that roosts not far from where I live. The swift, mostly silent river of birds that flows past my house just above the treetops at dawn is breathtaking!

I've seen a similar one, but they just totally amaze me how smart they are at adapting to their environment. Watched a documentary one time on about 5 crows they tagged and followed throughout their lifetime. It was a pretty amazing video showing them learning as they were growing up, their adolescence and then their adulthood.

First I've heard anything. Just did a quick read now. Is it being talked about anywhere else? (Too tired to look myself at the moment.)
