At one time, we heard in Meeting a lot about the Spirit and having power. When people in other denominations did things contrary to scripture or F&W practices, the explanation was that those people don't have power because they don't have the Spirit. Now, at least in some F&W congregations, the subject is taboo. What changed and why?

Still gets spoken on where I go to meeting.
Today we heard about Acts 8: people in Samaria who had been baptized in the name of Jesus, but hadn't yet received the Holy Spirit...

We hear it in meetings I attend, too. More than ever, or else I am more aware?

The holy spirit is the power of God and when he comes unto you you are endued with power from on high. That is why script speaks of the baptism of the holy spirit. It is there for anyone who asks.
IMO the workers should be praying for the people for this. Doing what the early apostles did and laying hands on the flock.

Without it you have a powerless gospel.

Interesting subject. One of the things that I came to realize as I searched the scriptures about salvation and began questioning the 2x2 doctrine was that the Spirit is viewed differently in the fellowship than by many Christians outside it.
Once I understood salvation by grace, I knew that we received the Holy Spirit once we express our saving faith to God and our desire to be saved through Christ. A great definition of salvation is a faith-based relation with God the Father by abidding in His Son Jesus, and living in loving obedience to His Word by the power of the Holy Spirit. Without the Spirit it is not only difficult to please God, it is impossible! It is what enables us to live in obedience to God and it is always with us.
In the fellowship, people would often pray that the Spirit would come amongst them in the meeting. The Spirit is in each of us, not as some separate participant or presence in the gathering. The other saying is; "We enjoyed the Spirit of the meeting". Again, it is being referred to as a separate entity outside of individuals.
I believe this view of the Spirit comes from the early days of the fellowship when workers would refer to having the Christ Spirit. It was something that they obtained by emulating Christ, the "pattern minister" instead of "receiving" at the moment one is saved. They believed that their human effort was "earning" them increasing righteousness, santification and Christ-likeness which then led to their salvation.
This, in my opinion, is completely refuted by a favorite of mine verse from Paul:
Galation 2:20 "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me."
Paul is saying definitively that he is living by the power of the Spirit (i.e., Christ in me) which he obtained BY FAITH, not his good deeds. The deeds follow as a result. This Spirit is with us always and we should seek to never quench it!
I hope this helps!

Hello friends in Christ, how is everyone? The lord Jesus opened my eyes recently showed me that ALL people (regardless of going to TRUTH meetings or any other Christian based church) who call on the name of the Lord Jesus and accept HIM as their savior will be SAVED. It is ERROR to say that when OTHER followers from OTHER denominations "sin" or make mistakes, it's because they DON"T have God's holy spirit!
People in Truth meetings are NOT any more SAVED or any more powerful than God's children in any other church. God know OUR hearts and He has mercy, on whom HE has mercy. We are savec by GRACE, and has nothing to do with needing to attend MEETINGS or NOT sinning. that's why Jesus died for us because He knows that we still sin after we are saved! we will never be perfect until Jesus comes and transforms our earthly bodies!
when Jesus comes, all of HIS truly saved children (from all denominations) will united in heaven and the new earth. No more TRUTH meeting, baptist, penecostal... etc. We ALL have the same Holy Spirit that unites us- Look from God's viewpoint and eyes: we ALL sin, and ALL fall short of HIS glory...and to say that others who are not in the TRUTH, when they sin, it's because they don't have HIS spirit, this is SIN and self-righteousness speaking out. Well, I have went to TRUTH meetings on and off for the last 32 years, and now I'm attending different churches in my area... God has shown His spirit in all of the churches I have attended. He is where his children are. God bless all of you, and thank you for your time.

Made me wonder if some of those sins Jesus blood covers is simply the competition between sects of the Christian faith.
