Just finished watching The Work and the Glory I, II and III. It is a fictional story based on what was happening with the Mormons at that time.
It looks like they were bases on a series of books called 'Pillar of Light.' In reading notes about the book, it seems that the author quit writing because the family, (which he was basing his books on) was saying that they'd shared enough of their lives with the readers and it was time for them to be left alone.
Even taking into account that they were written by a Mormon, it still seems unbelievable that any group of people could be so hated. To me it also seems almost unbelievable that so many people could follow someone else's visions (or hallucinations/wishful thinkings).
The movie focuses on a 'broken' family, where part of the family believes, while one son leads an 'anti' group and until the end of the third movie the father is just goes along to get along but not joining.
I've also seen - American Experience: The Mormons Brigham Young Sons of Perdition Emma Smith: My Story
Next up is - Savage Journey
