I'll start us off shall I?
So, its literally been years since I've read the Christmas story, so I thought that I'd check it out, after all we often find unexpected treasure in the most familiar places if we take a little time and don't just scratch the surface.. I invite anyone who would like to do the same to post their thoughts on here.
Thank you God that Your ways are not my ways, nor my ways your ways, nhelp me and us to be more like you; trusting, secure, letting go of seeking control and not worrying.
Matthew 2...
What really spoke to me in this cup was the heart and character if God the Father.
King herod at the time of jesus birth was threatening the life of baby Jesus. It would have been easy for God the Father to take control of the situation in a way that would make most sense to the logical human mind. We would expect that God would intervene by taking herod's life, snuffing him out getting rid of the danger, stopping the carnage of all those babies. getting rid of Herod it would seem would get rid of the problems.
But God theFather didn't choose that route, he didn't rake away what he had freely given Herod; free will to choose right from wrong, light from darkness.
For a while it lookd like everything had gone wrong, it seemed like evil was winning. All
those babies killed, baby Jesus and his earthly parents in hiding in the ghetto of Nazareth.
But Father God chose to speak and direct those that would listen to him, those that were His rather than block those who would not listen to Him.
father God spoke to his people, at this time through dreams, the orient kings didn't return to Herod and Joseph took Mary and Jesus to where Gid said was safe. they listened and he removed them from danger. This reveals God's character to desire Relationship over control. Control comes from insecurity controlling people are insecure, feeling like must defend themselves. God is sovreign, so unable to be threatened or insecure, so His reactions in times of trouble are different from ours.
By the time Herod dies we see that no one not even a powerful king, No person on earth is big enough to warp Gods plan if we listen to him.
Love that is not from free will is from fear and control. Herod had free choice, free will. he could have turned around. Even as Herod chose irrational evil God did not over rule Herods free choice.
