This will be the thread for Todd and I to debate just what our convictions are on the following Beatitude from: Matthew 5.
9Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.(KJV) I'll let Todd chime in with his thoughts on the ground rules, or we can have someone act as debate moderator here also that can explain the ground rules. Looking forward to this Todd!

Looking forward to this Todd! Going to be interesting from a scriptual or academic point of view. Personally I feel it is a bit of a non-event as the intracacies in meaning of the word vary considerably depending on the context.

Personally I feel it is a bit of a non-event as the intracacies in meaning of the word vary considerably depending on the context. I am hoping that we can each use a lot of scripture and point to those people in the bible as an explanation as to who we feel were acting as peacekeepers, and why we feel that way. I am more than happy to let Todd discuss our ground rules here, as I also don't mind using current events that happen within various churches as examples also. Either way it will be interesting to share our convictions on this subject. Scott

The time Jesus went into the Temple and began tossing out the moneychangers and lashing those that were there to make a profit, I suppose some might figure that that occasion was NOT about keeping peace or making peace. However I disagree...Jesus was "cleansing" His Father's house of the "dickering" of trade and commerce which often does not give to peace or peaceful attitudes even in modern times...but can we not begin to visualize those moneychangers there trying to bilk some of the poor Jews for a penny beyond what the normal cost for a pair of doves? That isn't peaceful at all....and even IF the moneychangers make those Jewish people pay more then the normal price for the pair of doves, the attitudes in the people who were bilked is not peaceful nor are the attitudes of those who did the evil. Unpeaceful spirits and times really come from the lusts and vanities of humankind, don't they?
BTW, Todd did join in over here yet...wonder where he is?

Going by his reasoning, if there is conflict (debate in this instance) then of course the way a peacemaker is going to react is to walk away and not speak of their convictions...... ;D Oh well...... Guess we will have to continue to hear his parables about dripping faucets and big green combines and guess what he is really trying to say..... (just kidding with you bro, if you don't want to debate I'll drop the idea.....) Scott

(just kidding with you bro, if you don't want to debate I'll drop the idea.....) Scott Is a discussion a debate? Is a debate peaceable? Are discussions peaceable? Are we discussing/debating FOR or AGAINST the words and life of Jesus? 2 Corinthians 12:20 KJV For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults: I have met a FEW peacemakers. Possibly literally 3. Some that can be in an unpeaceful situation and bring peace. So very few... among the few. Perhaps that's why some choose not to partake in debates or give answers to those that feel they are entitled to explanations.
