Thanks for your vote of confidence jh62 but I doubt I have the time to participate in a formal debate. I would be happy to do something non-time-consuming of an administrative nature though such as setting up the threads, editing out personal attacks ;D (which sadly I'm not above so I can spot them easily), and ensuring the debaters followed the rules. I33t you are chief referee. Thanks, this is for you and anybody else to post points of order and administrative type issues.

Hear! Hear! Let the first great wind...ooopss....debate session of the TMB come to order!
Debate agenda as follows:
1) Pro topic open 2) Con topic open 3) Pro first response 4) Con first response 5) Pro second response 6) Con second response 7) Pro close 8) Con close
* No new arguments can be introduced in closes. * Debaters are not to discuss the topic in other threads until the debate is formally closed. * To signify you have finished your final edits to a post please add a line at the end saying **FINAL EDIT COMPLETED** * Your opponent may not respond until you have added this line. * Debaters may NOT edit any earlier posts once the FINAL EDIT line has been added. If you did not make a point clear or made an error of fact you can correct that only in a following response. This is a courtesy to your opponent.
Arbitrary rules shall be appended hereto once the flying monkeys start flinging poo.
Either debater dissing these rules shall be e-smacked and/or e-sanctioned.
Hopefully it can be wound up in a week but we all know real life is a spoilsport.
Dearest Admin - please delete any non-participant posts from the debate thread.

l33t, what has happened with the first debate? Is it a fizzer? Has Gene wound up his opening address? Is it over to Scott to get his two responses in before the deadline (which is when?)
And is it time to warn posters not to clutter the debate boards, posts there will simply be deleted and serial pests the same fate, eh?

i been moved to move that we all move to move to the movies. so lets get movin..come onn !!!
that was a good verse ya quoted on the stranger. was he professing? had he possibly met the apostles and been baptised and now knew many of the faith, and now greeted them for each other sometimes, when he was meeting with them in their houses for worship? maybe he was and you just didn't know that part... well, i guess not, lol, but you know what i mean... after all Jesus the same, yesterday, today, forever...
i submit that God's people are the strangers. Moses led his flock through the wilderness. we know that they had a ritual of passover, and that while alone crossing the red sea, only the group that was not drowned was God's people exclusively, the ones that Moses was with...
i submit that Moses was the stranger that the parable Zorro mentioned was talking about as well as anyone... and that possibly, Moses was the sheep, and the ones that were not the Children of Israel were the goats at the moment the red sea waters closed..
their group was exclusively saved that day.
Act 7:29 Then fled Moses at this saying, and was a stranger in the land of Madian, where he begat two sons.
Moses was a stranger there.. and he drank cold water, when offered...
i forget so much these days... i am lucky if i can come up with a verse at all to support anything, but i get lucky with unmatching verses coming together in the overall picture, and then seeing the intricate detail of the Word., by simplicity, the simplicity of someone that has forgotten so much since missing meetings so long...

The brownie debate was a bit of fun. It was never going to be formally moderated. Gene and Scott are welcome to continue it. And we have action now on the first serious debate.

who's winning? i can't tell, because i am a stranger to this game.. i am thirsty. may i have a cup of water? i will even allow pepsi as a substitue..
don't worry, i have something nice to say... i guess, how about "i'm sorry".. i mess everything up.. i really have nothing to say about anything, my mind is not sharp today, must be a bad horoscope day...
i am believing both sides of the debate at this moment...
what is truth?

And we have action now on the first serious debate. l33t you are doing a superb job, thanks. I'm glad the first debate (the serious one) isn't a fizzer. However we are swayed or not by the arguments, it's a massive effort by both GiT and Zorro and appreciated guys. I hope Scott and Gene take their debate through to the finale, it's fun. And l33t when/if you have the energy, start canvassing for the next topic to debate and two more debaters. Thanks!

I move that l33t be given moderator control over the debate board. I second the motion that I have the power to delete or move posts in the Debate forum. Pretty please?? It will make things easier.

no, no, no... then my LSD and exes thread would have been deleted, but Admin said it was just fine where it is and that it can stay... but the more people that can delete..... nope, no way.. they will do it for the slightest reason. they would delete this post, just for getting on their nerves. plus all the personal info.. i will FREAK OUT if this happens !! FREAK OUT !!(but i love you all) besides, you have a job...try doing what the Admin did suggest that you could do. Boy, just like an exe to want to skip what is being asked to do and do things in their own power instead...

I move that l33t be given moderator control over the debate board. I second the motion that I have the power to delete or move posts in the Debate forum. Pretty please?? It will make things easier. l33t, it would lighten my load to do this. And I have no reason not to trust you or your discretion and judgment totally. And I understand that I can give you those limited powers without compromising anybody's privacy, or giving out access to IP addresses, personal emails, etc. None of that is the issue. What I have come to sense, is that some who post here, both members and guests, have suffered deep hurt, feelings of betrayal even, and for some trust is a very hard thing to grant now. This does not apply to everyone of course, but even if just a handful I am very aware of my responsibility to make their involvement with TMB as peaceful and unscary and uncomplicated as possible. It is for the peace of those, however many or few, that I hesitate (not for any rational or practical reasons). They have peace of mind that only one admin is anywhere near the personal stuff, and I hope over time they can come to trust me completely. It would mortify me to ever betray such trust. So here is my compromise suggestion. Everybody agrees to exercise the personal discipline and consideration not to post on the debate threads, and to follow all other requests from our referee/adjudicator l33t. If I'm not around and l33t asks you to delete something for valid reasons, please comply. Will this work? I hope so. But feel free to give me any feedback. Like I think GiT posted on the main board, the level of courteous interaction has been commendable of late. Thanks everybody!

IMO, that will work, Admin. HOWEVER, if it does NOT work (and people just ignore the rules and/or the requests that are made)....it's my opinion to just go ahead and give l33t the power to move and delete on this board only. As you said, it CAN be done without compromising any privacy issues. If people can trust you to be Admin, they can trust you when you say that. (that no privacy issues would be compromised by allowing l33t to move/delete.)
JMO, as always. M.

yeah, no more interrupting the debate, except for Gem, because she does it so well...and pesky trolls, which can't help themselves, and especially those who are new here, or do not yet know whats going on with the rules, and we wouldn't want to hurt their feelings, would we? and i guess people who have been here a long time.. we have to give them at least the same rights as pesky trolls....anything other would be a miscarriage of justice... admin can handle it, as admin is here quite regularly... (i am the one that has been hurt, betrayed, and i am not well yet..no lie...did anyone suspect?)

What abuse? The only person crying foul is you.
Go abuse me on the main board. You'll have a wider audience there.

Maybe reality you need to be quiet and learn some manners.
Maybe you should go back to meetings yourself

Oh well. Inaction seems to be the MO around here. The abuse of this sub-board will continue as long as certain people around here know that the admin isn't going to do anything about it. So Mr/Ms Reality.. do you prefer a board where the admin is always hovering, meddling, getting in there and getting fingers dirty and sticky. Or a board where admin is as invisible as possible, only intervening when absolutely necessary (such as to keep us on the right side of ProBoards and to uphold the few basic rules such as we have)? It's a debate that we've had, more or less, but always an ongoing one and I try to take note of different sentiments and to adjust as I feel necessary. I appreciate your feedback, at the moment I feel that most prefer admin being as invisible as possible. I know it gets frustrating at times, for me too. But I think I'm right in judging that most actually like the wild side and even rampantly unpredictable possibilities of the board as it is. But this freedom comes at a price. Being a measure of self-restraint and courtesy and respect to others. Your comment "as long as certain people around here know that the admin isn't going to do anything about it". That is just the point, I don't have unlimited patience. People I think know that I will delete posts from the debate threads that aren't from the debaters, and if they keep doing it, serial pests, they too will find themselves deleted.

Ok.... so I gotta ask... Where should those of us in the peanut gallery post our comments about debate posts? GloryinSelf's utter lack of manners will not survive the day without comment from us lackeys who don't measure up to his emminence. What about another thread here, specifically for comments on debate 1?

The tea and scones thread is for discussion about the debate.
Why is the thread full of unrelated posts? Don't answer that. Please just stop posting in this thread and discuss as you would like to in the tea and scones thread.

Ranman,
I'm not going to bite. You are just a registered troll.
Would all of you please delete your posts from this thread which is not for open discussion? If you would like to ask any questions, please feel free to ask them in the "Admin Idea" or "Popcorn, tea and scones" threads. This thread is for refs to keep track of debates and arising issues in it.
Please.
Thank you.

1) Admin, If you want to add a new thread specifically for comments on each debate, that's fine.
2) Ranman, You appear incapable of moderating yourself. Could the admin please delete the irrelevant posts in this thread? Ranman did delete a couple of his registered ones from one of his multiple personalities - but then he had to do rage anonymously.
3) Thank you "the Reality".

1) Admin, If you want to add a new thread specifically for comments on each debate, that's fine. OK I deleted my junk post too. In regard to 1) new thread, you choose. Anybody of course can start a new thread. I can sticky it under the debate if necessary. Cheers.

It appears new threads can't be started by anyone except mod/admin in this sub-forum. Have you noticed that's why someone starts polls in this sub-forum? He needs vehicles for his pedestrian access. (Pun intended).
