Have any of you read the book/watched the movie "The Scarlet Letter"? I will not spoil the plot but I think this book/movie is best understood by those who are divorced and remarried and attending mtgs. I don't recall that there was a divorce in the novel nor a remarriage. Other than the judgmental attitude of the citizens I don't see it any more connected to the 2x2s than to any other conservative group. I did like the novel and the movie.

There wasn't a divorce, didn't say there was... just seeing similarities in the struggle. Sorry. I read your sentence: "I will not spoil the plot but I think this book/movie is best understood by those who are divorced and remarried and attending mtgs."and was trying to see some similarity between adultery and divorce/remarriage as it related to the F&W.

The Scarlet Letter is about a man and a woman who fall in love and their relationship is not approved by their strict religious community. I understand. But, in general, adultery is not approved by society at large and not just a strict religious community. I did understood the adultery/divorce&remarriage relationship but I fell down on the significance of being held up as an adulteress when it is a widespread deviation from the rules of the general society and not some specific rules of the strict sect. Oh, I know that feeling!
