Many suggest that the solutions to declining inner cities is more money. More money for the government bureacratcs to spend. (And waste!) Here is what is wrong and how to fix these run down cesspools of crime and immorality.
1. Incorporate the suburbs into the city limits and gradually end the little mayors/councils of the little suburbs. Cities that have adopted this approach are for the most part better off: Jacksonville FL, Augusta GA, Lexington KY, Columbus OH, Indianapolis IN, Charlotte NC, Nashville TN, Omaha NE, Tulsa OK, San Antonio and others.
Yes minority representation will decrease but lack of affluent families will only gut the tax base.
2. Do away with the city manager and commisioners elected by the entire region so each city councilman will be responsible for his or her own district. Local rule.
3. Privatize city services. End the corruption and waste that a large bureaucracy will involve.
4. Term limits on mayor's office so new and fresh blood will keep the cities prospering.
5. Station troops near areas of crime! Why should citizens of LA, DC, NYC and others live in fear? Set up a police station in a run down building. Locate these centers of crime, cocaine and violence!
6. Encourage city media to focus on an act of kindness per week. Too much media focus on the killers, rapists and other misfits.
7. School vouchers so these students in the declining districts can attend a safe school. Given the sick state of public schools, maybe private schools would work better!
8. Cut out paper work, forms, and inspections that tie a noose around the small business owners.
It is time to take the inner cities back from the brink of ruin.
